Their comb and wattles are cut off. It goes back to cockfighting. It removes the loose skin so the bird is less likely to be injured in a fight so they won't bleed from their injuries. I think show birds are dubbed because of their original purpose. It does give the birds a unique look. Females and cockerels can be shown, but I think even cockerels will be looked down on if they are uncut. I've watched it be done, because my son had a OEGB when he was in 4H.
If you are truly interested, look it up on youtube, but it is not for the squeamish.
And maybe your hens just think Foghorn is cute!
You said he's the main man, the girls apparently aren't prejudiced about his height!
