Someone laid her first egg today! For being half marans her egg color is pretty Orp. How cool is it that I have pullets starting to lay so far in Fall??

I've finally started getting eggs!! My oldest basque girl started laying this week. I thought she laid a few weeks ago, which turned out wasn't her egg. But today i find 2 eggs on the coop floor, then i go back to check later and i find another one! I don't know if she laid 3 eggs today. 2 is possible, but 3? Is it possible?
And one of my Buff Laced Brahmas laid an egg today!
What is it with today? Amys orp x laid her first today. And mine? Must be the weather. Whatever it is, keep it comin!

Today was a good day. Got a call from my coop builder, my 2 6x10 coops will be delivered on Friday!? Soo happy! Also im starting house hunting Saturday. A property that i inquired about a few months ago is now ready for me to view. Its in Yreka. A little more north than i wanted to be but its 44 acres and 1400ft elevation. So im going to check it out.
I wish i could go to the stockton show. But i know Amy Beth has us covered on the photos (right?)
And Amy, what kind of camera do you use mostly when you take most of your pictures? I've been looking for something i can take easy good shots with.

My camera is a Nikon D700 (full frame dslr) and I usually use a 50mm f/1.4 or my mega zoom 70-300vr. My camera has no auto settings though- I usually shoot in full manual.

How's the hawk situation like cooper? Are they still hanging around? Are your chooks doing ok?

I was fixing my fence today. I was kind of bent down in some tall grass near a little pool of water, and a hawk not like most I've seem this year. It had a lot of white under it and on the back of its tail swooped about 3' behind me! Startled the mess outa me lol!

They've been circling but no dive bombers lately. I've gotta get up more cds and owls before they start trying to hit hard again.

I have gotten a lot of comments like that! Yes her brothers were ugly mutts. They are long gone. I bet if I bred her the Marans would pop out huh? I think her daddy was an English Black Orp. Those genes must be strong! Another breeder said I should enter her as an Orp and get her a fella. I really do like her and would love some offspring from her. She isn't full Orp. The breeder didn't have a black female orp that I know of. I am TRYing to recall this right. Breeder has lavender Orps. She got an English self blue Black Orp rooster. Put him in with her Marans hens (cannot recall reason) or he got in there- I just cannot remember that part. But he is for her lavenders or blues...does any of that make sense? I hope I recalled it right. They looked ALL Marans when I got them. You could not even tell they were mixes.

Did you see the ad on CL for the big 6x10 walkin coops? If you have its by that guy. Im having him customize the coop sits not exactly like the ones pictured but very similar. I like that D700. I watched some reviews on YouTube about it. I really like how your pictures come out. Im going to be building my website for the chickens soon and i really want that kind of quality you do for my website.

I am back from checking on the three week old chicks and the hatching ones. They are all fine!

7 of 9 eggs have hatched. On more has a pip and the other has a chick working on getting out.

That's awesome Ron.. Even after all your Drama..way to go!
