  My Daughter and I saved Papa Brooder's chicks today!

They survived 2 hours without power today with an ecoglow 20 running on a battery.

That is Awesome.. I'm sure Papa Brooder will be grateful ... That is great that your daughter was able to help .... How old is your daughter Ron? Does she enjoy the chickens to?
 
I will probably have all 9 eggs hatch tonight too.

A couple of months ago she posted that she had started a Vet Tech program. Between Johnnys broken leg and school she is likely very busy.

8 hatched. The last one did not have enough energy to get out of the shell. The 8th is pretty sticky. I made sure to clean up a bit but I usually give them a day before I wash them more. All 8 are looking good so far. Penne x Cream Legbars and two blue looking Olive eggers.

OK quick post here.
If you want marans in your book you have to get a recent sop. They were painfully pricy last I looked.
The only digital ones I saw were from 1930. Fine for most chickens ( orphs et all) but nothing recently added in the recent chicken explosion. It was close to free and is supposed to have great black and whites . Walt said b&w is best for seeing shape and most parts of sop you are not distracted by useless detail.

Deb, don't need a call. My mail people get excited for egg and come early to drop em off and coo at my chickens. I'll try and pm you in the morning, my PMS don't like the pad.

And on you eggs..... I do not know who the dad is on that silkie egg I promise nothing! I didn't recognize your address or I would have paid attention to who the egg was from. Don't be ma at me if its a boy iggy spawn and smooth feathered!

Congratulations everybody!! 10,000 posts!!! Thank you for the tilapia info. I have a friend on the east coast who just started raising tilapia to sell on the fish market so I was curious to the legality information. Ron you are the hatch king! glad your electricity is back on man! is it still storming down your way? I've finally started getting eggs!! My oldest basque girl started laying this week. I thought she laid a few weeks ago, which turned out wasn't her egg. But today i find 2 eggs on the coop floor, then i go back to check later and i find another one! I don't know if she laid 3 eggs today. 2 is possible, but 3? Is it possible? And one of my Buff Laced Brahmas laid an egg today! What is it with today? Amys orp x laid her first today. And mine? Must be the weather. Whatever it is, keep it comin! My Basque girl's first 2 One of those pretty girls first egg! 2 Basqo eggs (darker eggs) 1 BLB egg (lighter egg) Today was a good day. Got a call from my coop builder, my 2 6x10 coops will be delivered on Friday!? Soo happy! Also im starting house hunting Saturday. A property that i inquired about a few months ago is now ready for me to view. Its in Yreka. A little more north than i wanted to be but its 44 acres and 1400ft elevation. So im going to check it out. I wish i could go to the stockton show. But i know Amy Beth has us covered on the photos (right?) And Amy, what kind of camera do you use mostly when you take most of your pictures? I've been looking for something i can take easy good shots with. Sweet! about time girl! was that the buff from stacy? Nice! hoping mine decide to start giving some eggs again soon. hatched those 2 chicks but haven't seen an egg since. I did get a few firsts today as well.... my first light sussex and my first lemon cuckoo orp egg. still gonna take a hatching break for the next month. gonna worm in a few weeks, then separate breeders, then starting incubating again around 2nd week of january. sure is nice to not be a chick mill for a little while! although ron will help me bump my numbers this weekend!

I have gotten a lot of comments like that! Yes her brothers were ugly mutts. They are long gone. I bet if I bred her the Marans would pop out huh? I think her daddy was an English Black Orp. Those genes must be strong! Another breeder said I should enter her as an Orp and get her a fella. I really do like her and would love some offspring from her. She isn't full Orp. The breeder didn't have a black female orp that I know of. I am TRYing to recall this right. Breeder has lavender Orps. She got an English self blue Black Orp rooster. Put him in with her Marans hens (cannot recall reason) or he got in there- I just cannot remember that part. But he is for her lavenders or blues...does any of that make sense? I hope I recalled it right. They looked ALL Marans when I got them. You could not even tell they were mixes.

Maybe it was from one of her blue orp hens with the black rooster. I know when I'm not sure on a chick, it goes in my mutt coop... she really looks like a pure orp to me.. She is SO pretty Amy Beth
