Sweet!

So DH was working outside when the hawk attacked my hen.. Thankfully he was listening when it happened and wasn't working with a saw, concrete drill or other power equipment. I was inside making the kids a snack.

Here's his current project...

We don't have any shade near our pool... every temporary shade umbrella, gazebo, etc has blown away in the wind despite our best efforts (we live on a hill and get some good gusts). I don't think this will blow away, LOL. The big beam is around 20 feet long and weighs a ton. I can't believe DH got the big beams up there by himself using ladders and blocks of wood. I helped moving ladders and such, but I can barely lift one end of those beams a few inches by myself.

Right now there's just some of the frame work up, but it'll eventually be fully roofed with a barbecue and table area under it...someday LOL. This is a big project for DH to do by himself. Next step is to pour the concrete footings around the posts...no way is it going to blow away then...I think our house will go first, LOL.

I know how you feel. I've seen raccoon tracks in the snow. Even though my coops are secure at night, it's still unsettling that something is stalking them.

I've thought about putting traps out, but the last time I did, I caught a skunk. That was not fun. (and yes, I got sprayed)
Pro tip do NOT put a skunk carcass in with your black soldier flies or mealworms or reg worms with the glands still there.....
isnt it always the gimpy ones that steal your heart. I have a little neture quail that I keep around because its cute. Its like an irratable old lady that huffs at the other quail. Wiggles the female italian buff takes care of her and keeps the young boys away from her, they are an adorable pair.

If only we could teach roos not to mate...

Oh no! Not good at all!

Zooweemama and i seem to be thinking alike today.

From left to right D'anver, OEGB, PRB, BOB, BLRW lf, Yellow Titleist, 2+ oz BR.

I think it came from the girl on the right

The first BLRW egg I've gotten. Forgot to add that the eggs in the second row are the second eggs from the new girls.

I have:

RIR
Dorking Crosses
Marans OEs
Pene x CLs
and OE X Barnie

eggs to start laying. I am going to have to wait a long time for the last two--they hatched on Friday. Oh, I also have one EO Basaque pullet to start also.
