I may have some eggs available for TEST hatches before that. The way it works for me and my friends, is they take the free eggs, hatch them and raise them to a certain age, then we agree what birds I need to get back for my breeding pens and the other ones remain with the hatcher...everyone wins!
Weekend Digest 12/15 to 16/2012
Statistics: #7busiest site for Saturday
A Sand Hill order is being worked on by Ron and Jason. Discussion about Sand Hill and their substitution policy took up several posts. With my luck I will order La Fleche and get Long Crower chickens....
It snowed up north(Oregon) on Saturday and snowed and did not stick going up the hill towards the Sierras. Cooper12 has a delay on getting his new place. It is a bit higher in elevation so the snow may have stuck up there. Cooper12 needs to worm his flock.
Mine are ok for now.
Pictures of the snow were asked for. No snow for me, so I posted pictures of wet chickens In the mud. Mike and Jeff posted snow pictures and said a roo was trying to catch snow flakes! Mike posted pictures of his flock! SilkiesForEver posted pictures too and there were other critters also, including goats!
Jason, Molly and Deb are working on Bamboo again! It looks like they will get It moved this week! Get the Wrecking bar and saw ready!
Cheryl has a Delaware, that lays golden eggs, with a Spur like a Roo! Should it be cut off? IDK
Mille Fleur chickens are so pretty! Cheryl posted pictures and will be culling from her MF Leghorn pen. Lucas is interested in getting some.
PG Ranch posted pictures of Ducks swimming in mud puddles and her Silver Spangled Hamburg playing in the rain. Lawatt posted pictures of her Flock Too!
Jersey was cold on Sunday. The wind was blowing and that makes it seem colder. And then we saw a tree worthy of Middle Earth and quite appropriate for opening weekend of the new Hobbit Movie! What a great tree! (post 10822). Then to go along with the Mystical looking three, Molly posted pictures of her frizzled poufy haired chickens! Lovely!
Love your silly chicken pics! Your white polish looks just like our Marshmallow! It's crazy how much I miss that silly, little bird. I look for her every time I go into the backyard.
No we don't ... Just thought it would be fun to take them to parties and function we will be attending ...plus, I get to spend time with the kids when we make them.. Love spending time with my amazing kids.

LOVE that! My son and fiance from Michigan are coming in this week. I haven't seen them in a while (he's finishing up his PHd) He is a fabulous cook. I can't wait to share all the great things we learned while in Mexico. We'll be making tamales for Xmas dinner. I made the most amazing tortilla soup a few nights ago. So it will surely be a food fest.
I always had my 3 boys in the kitchen with me cooking. Great memories for all.
I missed this yesterday! The ear lobe and egg color does not work for all breeds. It really only works for our American breeds. CLs do not follow blue laying rules associated with the Araucana type breeds.
Yes, you will have Olive colored and probably speckled eggs. I can't wait to see what yours lay, since I have 7 of these guys in my Brooder...
thanks! that's interesting, because their ears really do look faintly bluish, both on Amelia & the two CLs -- can't wait til they (or ANY of my chickens, for that matter) start laying!
Quote:
The ear lob = egg color is: Chickens with white earlobes lay white or lightly tinted eggs, and chickens with red earlobes most commonly lay brown eggs. There are exceptions, of course, but this is the general rule.
With EEs and etc, the rose comb is thought to be associated with the blue color. penedesencas are one of the exceptions, having white ear lobes and lay very(some say the darkest) brown eggs and CLs have straight combs but lay the bluest eggs.
The breeds in this cross are both exceptions to the egg color rules. Very exciting!
