Yay, a woman that buys a freezer lamb from us every year has been bugging me for some more roosters. We just went out and sorted today, she's picking up 15 boys tomorrow morning. Her only question...................do you have more?

Sure I could put them in the freezer myself, but do I want to right now? No..............15 less boys to feed and add to the crowing around here.

Wow!

I processed two of the Dorking Crosses today. I think one was a SG Dorking roo X Barred Rock and the other was crossed with a Black Australorp. They were 13 weeks old and dressed out at 3.13 and 3.14 pounds! Great for 13 weeks!

Three more tomorrow and now more crowing at my place!

The Sour Cream pie crust is great for sweet pies, like pumpkin and etc.

I made the double crust version of the Lard pie crust this weekend for an Apple Pie. I used Leaf Lard(Thanks Kim!) It rolled out nicely.

This is a good Pecan Pie recipe!

Thank you I will try those out. What is Leaf Lard?

Awesome dog. How is he doing with the chickens?

Tain loves work. So he doesn't much care what is going on in the background as long as it isn't a threat and I don't point it out to him. He has amazingly high prey drive, like all working line GSDs, but I cap that and put it into a ball and jobs to do. So far he would chew off his own left paw if it meant he got a ball. He is now being trained to guard and herd the chickens since I moved to CA from Alaska.

Quote: I love tracking training and have done quite a bit of it. For the heck of it, I even put the first tracking title on an Italian Greyhound. I don't think she'd have been doing a lot of rescue work, but her nose worked just fine. It was a bit of extra work, since they aren't food or toy driven.

Right now my house is dominated by a Great Dane & three Border Collies.

Leaf Lard is rendered fat from over the Kidneys. Regular lard comes off of the back. It is nearly impossible to get leaf lard but capayvalleychick butchered some American Guinea Hogs and gave me the fat!

It has the least "pork" taste of any lard and is prized by bakers. It makes great pie crust!

Quote: I had a lab once who was very smart (for a lab) almost scary smart. He learned dozens and dozens of commands. If you told him which toy to get...he would find it out of dozens left on the floor. I used to play "drug dog" and hide items around the house. He would search the whole house looking for specific hidden toys. (at the time this was a 4800 sq ft house) He was very good at finding even toys stuffed under mattresses and in closed closets. He could find people by name too....just had to tell him, "get so and so" and he would find that person. I miss him..he was a great dog. He would of chewed his foot off too if it meant getting a ball, LOL.

My current labs don't know much...haven't had time to train them (kids take up too much time). But, they don't go off the property, have a great recall and protect the chickens like they are family. They don't dig, bark excessively or chew anything that doesn't belong to them. But they barely know sit/stay

Which bothers me since I've always liked to teach my dogs every command I could. These girls are very willing to please and will do anything for a treat. Just got to find time to teach them more.
