I feel like I just post photos LOL

Well here is a story with the photos :)

Drew went into the barn to get a wrench. The critters always mob around the barn when you go in.

The heard him in the barn on the other side so they ran around!

Then they came around the other side and waited until he came out. No food this time but they will try again!
haha That's funny!

I know! At least none of them are stinky.

This is day 7 for them, so we will know for sure soon.

They look like this on Day 9, so by day 10 your can see them darkening the inside of even the brownest eggs:

That's just amazing that these eggs turn into chickens. LOL

Jeff is very kindly hatching some eggs for me soon (just an experiment) and I had a few questions maybe someone can answer.

He is hatching all Buff Orp eggs (possibly a Black Betty egg) and I am throwing caution to the wind and putting my green egg in from my EE.

I am curious if my bantam Wyandotte is actually fertilizing any of these eggs. Tonight as an experiment I grabbed a random Orp egg (from the eggs) I have collected for Jeff and I saw the "donut" shape that means fertile. Not a spot but an actual splotch with a round inner shape. So SOMEone is fertilizing at least some of the pullets. LOL

I have 3 roosters and 1 is with the ladies at all times. Every now and then my rapist Orp gets a gal (he's not very nice about it) and my BC Marans also tries to woo (but haven't really seen him mate).

IF any eggs hatch, how soon do you think it will be that I will figure out that 1) they are a mixed breed 2) who they daddy is? LOL If they are mixed- I might want to rehome them as quickly as I can.

If my BO roo managed to cover a BO pullet or two- the chick will be ...well a Buff looking chick right? If my bantam Wyandotte or BC Marans roo covered some BO pullets- then the chicks will not look like pure Buff chicks right off....yes? And with a little more feathering might I see who the daddy was (Marans or Wyandotte)? Either way I am keeping the EE chick if it miraculously hatches. I bet the bantam Wyandotte would be the dad. Only 'mix' I want to keep.

I feel like Frankensteins mom! Let's see vat vee can maaaaake. ah ah ah!

They may look close at hatch but should start to see differences soon I hope. Ie leg color , comb but one of my barnevelder x ameraucana crosses looked /looks like a Blue Ameraucana still for the most part so that may not tell you the whole deal.
Obvisous ones though would be crown color or leg color when they are young but will not work on all of them..

Leaf Lard is rendered fat from over the Kidneys. Regular lard comes off of the back. It is nearly impossible to get leaf lard but capayvalleychick butchered some American Guinea Hogs and gave me the fat!

It has the least "pork" taste of any lard and is prized by bakers. It makes great pie crust!:woot

I had no idea there were different kinds of lard, very interesting. We raised and had a hog butchered when my brother and I were still in 4-H best meat ever.

With three roos, hens that hold the sperm two weeks and the possibility of having three sets in each hen, yes you will have a huge genetic mix.

Bantam chicks are noticeably smaller and the wyandootte pattern is much different than the buff colored BO chicks. Marans are black with white splotches too!

You should be able to tell what they are. What fun!

I love those pictures! I have a Buff Orp who will actually follow me into the garage when I'm filling their feeder lol. I will have to take a pic of my "herd" following behind me :)
