50 hours without power. I'd almost forgotten how nice it is to flush a toilet. Eric just read off accuweather that we have 2 more storms coming with more snow and wind. We still have 7 inches on the ground. Lost the redbud and the acacia trees in the front yard, snow weight brought them down. They were little compared with the ones who took out the power lines.
We are at more that 30 hours without power! We were melting snow today to flush toilets, do dishes, etc. Didn't start the generator for the fridge and chest freezer until we hit 27 hours, but then out genny died. Hoping I don't lose all the chickens that we processed and froze this year.

Funny thing is that my chooks picked today to kick it up a notch. We got 9 eggs from 14 girls today! 8 of those girls are spring chickens that did not come into laying before winter hit. I thought for sure they would make me wait until spring!

If one was looking for a nice property to raise goats, sheep, and chickens (about 10-15 acres) where would everyone suggest? We just moved here from Alaska a few months ago so I do not know California very well. I would like to start looking for a place to call home/farm so we can settle down. I would like to stick to Northern California is possible. Thanks all!

Ary you looking for a place near an Urban area? How remote do you want to be?

If it went on much longer I was thinking of moving things to ice chests with snow in them. Hadn't gotten to the point of melting snow but would have in the morning when changing chicken waters.

Davis has an Amtrak Station. There is a train that runs from Sac to the Bay area so somewhere close the there would be good. You should also be able to have a lot of clients for Dog training too. So, look at Vacaville, Dixon, Winters, Woodland and even the south end of Capay Valley.

The Sonoma area might work too but I do not know how Amtrack and Bart works there.
