SilkiesForEver: Thanks! His name is Tain and he is my competition and personal protection dog. I have another German Showline GSD who I do German style showing and protection sports with. But the dark sable is by far my favorite color in the GSD. :)

RON! Yes I will share my news here too :) I confirmed recently that I am expecting my third and probably last baby! I surprised my husband for Christmas by telling him and he is thrilled

I am just hoping I get just one baby this time around and not TWO. As precious as they are and as much as I love them, I cannot do another TWO BABIES AT THE SAME TIME!! I might just die from exhaustion!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and will have a spectacular New Year!!
Congrats! You had twins the first time around I'm guessing? Wow you must be one tough mama!

Thanks everyone! And yes I did have twins for my very first pregnancy. I was definitely life changing! I have had to learn to do mom things a whole other level away from normal. I could fix myself a sandwich and hold two sleeping babies by the time they were 5 months old! I can also change my clothes while holding both of them. One in my arm and one laying across my lap. I am hoping I don't need to be a circus freak this time around.

thank you for the kind offer! i will think seriously about taking you up on it -- technically i am *allowed* a roo, but i do worry about further enraging my uphill neighbor who was already angry (and still is, very pointedly) about the chicken coop.

and i'm not sure what kind of roo would go "best" with my much-varied flock? any suggestions? (i *would* prefer a quieter one, but i have no other Orps, so an Orp doesn't seem to make as much sense...)

probably over-thinking all of this!
You could try an olive egger to add colored eggs to your flock, or if you want a few pure bred chicks you could choose one of the breeds you already have. Perhaps a Cream Legbar to go with your girl.

Quote: Awe, congratulations! If you only get one it should be a breeze after having two! Funny you should mention your multi tasking skills....the best employees I have ever had are moms! We know how to multi task. It was actually my daughter who pointed out to me that the best employees that I have had over the years were woman who had children because a mom can carry on one conversation and know exactly whats going on at the other end of the room. Not that people without kids can't do that but it's great training! Do we get to find out what you're having?
Quote: I have an Olive Egger roo...actually two but only one has the pea comb but I need to rehome them soon. They're need some woman! I can't let them in with my flock because they work together and my poor hens have to hide from them.

Those are brahmas. You got Marans from me. :-). My Marans came from someone out near Galt.
Ha! I was going to ask but was sure they were Blue Copper Marans.....my only experience with Brahmas are light and these don't have the eagle looking eyes like mine did. Ah well, that's what I get for assuming...you know.

I really do care about the lines as well as the egg color. I can get a nice Black Copper Marans from SunnyDawn if I want to add a black cockerel but would really like the blue. I hope to buy some BCM from Sunnny this spring but for a Marans roo, I'd like a Blue. I wish my little roo from you would have made it, he was a good looking guy even at such a young age! I'll have to post pictures of the girls, they're really turning out nice, one especially. Let me know when you have the Blue Roo.
i wish i had a blue roo that looked like that!! :-) coloring is very similar to my big boy I lost last summer. so sad! none of my grow outs are blue but I hatched two more eggs and one might be blue. they should start laying again regularly as I get a random egg here or there but days are getting longer so I expect in a few weeks we may be back in business. In a few weeks, I have eggs hat hatching and will see if there are any blues in there. :-)

Thanks! And yes, you get to find out if it is a boy or a girl. I want to be prepared! I need to know what it will be!

I am Chick sitting.
My friend who sells tons of eggs eating kind is going out of town for a week. so he brought his pen over and 62 baby chicks. I could not get them to all stand in the photo. My garage is packed as my grow up run is next to this one. nothing in it though.
what we have here are red and black sex links and a bunch of easter eggers
You're a pretty nice friend! That's a lot of chicks!

i will be getting (whenever it is that they start laying!) a good range of colored eggs already, from creamy to brown to darker brown to blue to possibly olive from my Amelia (CL x pene) -- but if i were to get a roo, i think i would like him to be the same breed as at least one or two of my girls -- so that probably means CL or basque, of the kinds of roos that you have (the other breed i'd like to have someday is the swedish flowers, but i don't have any yet). but aren't CL roos supposed to be extra noisy?

I would get a Basque Roo. They are quieter and bigger, so he would be able to protect the flock better.

It you want to irritate the neighbor get a CL.

If you are allowed one Roo, you should get one. I am so jealous....
