If anybody here happens to have or get a Partridge Silky Roo that they don't want to keep.. I have two blue Silky girls here who would love a Roofriend, and I love the colors on blue partridge Silkies..

Yesterday I went to pick up some silkies off CL, and it was a BYCer who id met at Cheryl's last gathering! She had gotten the eggs out of catdance silkies and hatched them and didn't want all of them. I got a stunning what looks to be blue partridge hen that looks like a a sunset. I named her firefly. I give up i guess I am going to have to divide silkie land in 2 and have partridge. Of course I'm getting partridge chicks from one of my black hens anyway ( I do not know how that is possible, but she was the only person with a vaulted scull laying, and little hairdoo is a partridge showgirl)

Hopefully hairdoo survives, the showgirls out of the tiny eggs are super fragile. I have a customer/friend with 2 broody silkies who was going to take the chicks for her girls and bring them back in some amount of weeks. But she hasn't emailed me back so I'm not sure if her girls are still broody.

Wow - that is a beautiful BIG incubator... and it might not care if my external temperatures don't hold steady. I wish....

Ooooh, that Blue Partridge Silkie is exactly what I want...

If you happen to get any partridge Silkie Roos you don't want to keep .. or if there is any way I can get some eggs from you for the partridge silkies when one of my silkies go broody again ..

Oh dear, chicken math strikes again.. where can I put another separated pen for just silkies..

How are Minnie and Dixi? I hope their doing well.

They are having loads of fun!

I take them out every morning and let them run around in their "own" fenced off area - they have been eating grass and bugs and digging all kinds of holes around the trees. I have the crate for them to go into when its time to go to bed, and I bring them in the house again.

Minnie likes to tell Dixi when its time to go to bed - she talks to Dixi and tells her to get out of the way. She also tells me when its time to bring them outside for the day - and scolds me when I am late.

I was watching them through the glass door. That Dixi is a goofball! She will be standing there and all of a sudden takes off at a run. First she runs one way - then another -then shakes her head and looks around like "did anybody see that"?

Oh, so glad you got an egg from one of your other girls! Isn't it just the cutest thing?
Edited to add about egg, just reading through the thread..

ok my issue...
7 happy Healthy chicks in the bator. The other 2 cl xcp nothing yet. I thought 1 was pipping but no was the shadow or something..

1 white empordanesa is starting to pip.
They are cramped in the bator but there is NO WAY I am opening it now.
Sorry guys. That little white one has got to hatch.
Hoping more will to.
The others hatched this morning early so I know they are ok a few days in there but boy space is tight.
Hang in there!

I candle mine 2 or 3 times. The first time between Day 4-7 to look for development. Then I re-check the ones that I wasn't sure of around Day 10 and remove any clear ones. Then I candle a last time before Lockdown to make sure the chick has continued to develop. Sometimes I mark the aircells with a pencil while I'm candling to make sure the aircell is getting bigger. And, this helps me to know about where to expect the pips.

The only thing to keep in mind is that every time you candle an egg -you run the risk of dropping or cracking it.

I hate to admit that I've done it myself. I tried to turn it into a learning experience by studying the tiny embryo with my son.....but I felt SO terrible.

Oh, I might as well mention this on this post:
All 4 of my silkies have hatched!!!

The last one just out about 15 minutes ago!
