Patience is a virtue. After 48 weeks, my barnevelder pullet finally gave me an egg. Freeloader no more!

Yeah for all these newly laying pullets!!! My pullets who hatched June & July are taking their sweet time, too!

Here they are today...

Definitely a lot of copper on the one on the left (still a boy?). I can barely find any on the other one (still a girl?)!
How old are they? I agree with AmyBeth, there is no question the one on the left is a cockel. The one on the right has an awful lot of comb/wattle development for a girl, but the total lack of color would make me lean to a pullet (although, they are supposed to have some color in their neck feathers). But really, I could almost go either way with the second one, depending on the age.

If the math is correct, they will be 10 weeks on Wednesday. Is this right Chiqita?

That would be my guess too sorry :( I have the worst luck with chicks turning out to be cockerels even sexed ones from the hatchery!

I've been having pretty bad luck myself! Too bad, the one on the right is so gorgeous in person! But those waddles and comb keep getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger!

Ron , Kelly nice eggs.
Molly thanks for the offer. My wife handed them off to Deb. I have been moving all day.
I dug the rest of the holes for the posts but the local Hardware store closed early on Sunday so no concrete till next week.
If it sets by Sunday I will add the fence. I want to be moved in completely by Sunday.

Was a frosty 19 degrees. so cold as well at 1 when I broke the ice out of the chicken water by my next trip back it was frozen again at 3:30

Both those Marans look like cockerels.

Thanks guys. The last time I had a pullet wait this long to lay, she laid for a couple months, then went broody. I wonder if that will be the case with this girl. And yes, it is a very large egg - either a double yolker or she skipped the pullet egg size.
