See, I should have let Molly answer your question!
Hahaha! Thank you both for the info! You guys are ever so slowly infecting me with the hatching bug, and I am gathering info so I may be able to hatch eggs in the future. I want breeds that can be sexed early because my place is too small for roosters (noise issue). No room for more chickens now, but maybe some day! I want to be ready.
Yes, I love Blue too. I don't have any black isbars in the breeding pen. I put the black isbar out in my mixed flock. I have blue and slash Hen covered by the Blue Rooster. It seems like so many of my rare Chickens are laying. So exciting! Even my Cream Brabanter are laying...what am I going to do with all these chicks, Yikes!

CLs are one of the few Auto Sexing breeds in the US currently. Luckily, we have been blessed by some amazing people that have brought them to our area, so we can get local not shipped eggs to hatch. PapaBrooder has Rhode Bars and CLs too. Crele Penes are auto sexing and Elite Poultry has the first pair of Bielefelder chicks sold I the US!
I wish I still had her. She, and the chicks that hatched from these eggs were all killed (30+) by something and piled up in the run. Only the roo made it. That was a couple years ago. I hatched what I had of the flocks eggs and started over.
Quote: If you open up the BYC Calendar and go to June, you will see 2 EEs that I picked up for $3.50 each! I bought them to keep a GLW company. He wound up being a Roo and the EEs got to go live with Amy Beth.
Yours laid beautiful blue eggs! Sorry about the predators.
GORGEOUS chicks and chickens and birds this morning. I love when you all share pictures of your flock and new peeps!
I wanted to tell someone about our chicken "drama" here at our house, but none of my "normal" friends would understand-LOL! At least my BYC friends will relate.
I've mentioned before about our Buff Orpington -Buffy and how she's always going broody.......Well, she has finally let go of her last babies (the 2 Golden Comets we got her). She cared for them until they were 2 1/2 months old and is still "friends" with them.
Buffy is so sweet and started doing the egg squat (and wanting picked up even) a week ago. Yesterday she laid her first egg again-finally after taking a 4 month break!!! OK, here is the drama part: We keep catching her in the silkie pen! She is actually trying to become friendly with our silkie ROOSTER. Buffy really wants babies and seems to know how the process works. We don't have any LF roosters so she seemed to know that she should find a way to hook up with Leo Pierre!
My son is begging me to let them make babies together but I doubt if anyone would want a silkie-buff orpington mix!
Maybe if they were the right color together, but not buff/splash AND Orpington/Silkie!
-Oh darn, I've got chickens pecking at the patio door. Someone forgot to put up the chicken wire barrier again.
This was one of my hatchery "Americana" (that's the breed they said she was, I know there's no "i" in Ameraucana) chickens who laid beautiful blue egg. I had 4 that looked just like this and they all laid really blue eggs.
Does anyone remember the Huel Howser show where they showed the fields of Marigolds that were grown for commercial chicken feed to give the yokes color?
Speaking of it, when are we talking about meeting up? I don't remember the name of the place from last year, but the meeet up was fun. I think sat is the best day. We will be there early to steal all the eggs. But deb was wanting not to miss the judging, is it all day saturday?
Also
Muffler
( excuse the poop on the box next to her, she refuses to lay in the new coop,) this is floppy comb one of rons girls and mufflers love, she sneaks out to be with him)
Stuffing and Cranberries. Cranberries has started doing the stomp dance and is ready to make sweet sweet love to anything the size of stuffing. She is not yet interested, muuuch slower then he is.
Boys always seem to develop faster-LOL! Except in the case of Buffy, mentioned above. Leo Pierre (the silkie rooster) wasn't sure what to make of Buffy's obvious attraction to him. She was even squatting for him, but he didn't understand the offer!
SO PRETTY! Why do you have to show yet another gorgeous breed of chicken (that I don't have yet)? And, then offer to sell hatching eggs even! Must......use.........self..........control!!!!!
Is there such a thing as pre-broody? My black Orp pullet has started to yell at us when we come into the coop lately. When she is in the lay box of course. She eventually lays her egg and leaves but the yelling is newer. She does not bite per se but if you get your hand close to her she does spank you with her head lol.
Is there a way to encourage a hen to GO broody? I need one asap. I have all these bantam eggs collected and a few EE eggs I want hatched.
