Just wanted to share that another of my ewes just lambed 20 minutes ago. She's 7 years old, so we were really worried about her delivery. But, everything went great, and we ended up with two gorgeous baby girls!!

Zoo, I had one set of orph and Marans broodies who used to take an hour off every day to do a HUGE broody poop and scare all the other chickens, eat and get water. They would put their wings out and make this INSANE noise and walk up the sidewalk in the back. Up and down, eat, up and down, eat.... I don't know that they took an hour, but they were off for a fair bit.

They were the only birds sparkles did NOT decide to join going broody with.

How was everyones weekend? We went to wineland and had a lot of fun. Indoor coop seems to be working, but I had a surprise quail hatch today! I was not expecting to out them in lockdown till tonight. One poor baby got her foot stuck in the turner, shes going to need a cup later.

I had a nice productive weekend. All of the coops have been cleaned and I got 10 more bags of sand to get ready for the rain!

I have not had eggs hatch in the turner yet but I did have some pip before lockdown. I am getting ready to have some odd hatches so I will need to mark the eggs and then fill out a hatch chart to make sure I get the correct eggs into lockdown at the right time.

It is going to be so fun!

I have a question. A dear friend took in my roo Samson a few months ago. They love him so much. Well a coon got him and he is doing very badly and I am sure he is not going to make it. I collected 4 eggs from her hoping to do something with them. Betty is on day 4 of sitting on her eggs. Is that too many days? Can I make it work in a pinch. They loved that rooster and having a little piece of him would be so precious. *fingers crossed*

I would see if Jeff will incubate them. She may not sit on them for long after the main hatch and Marans often go a day or two longer.

Does anyone know if my 4 month old cockerel could be fertile? I've seen him mating with my pullets and hens.

Tomorrow I will be getting 15 or so OE Eggs as a test hatch. Friday or Saturday I will be getting 8 Blue Egg Layers from UofA. and within a week or so I may be hatching some Aracaunas for a guy in Winters. I do not know how many he will have. It is not that many but the timing is kind of close for a staggered hatch. I like them to be at least a weak apart. The good news is that I will have three incubators to work with, so I will use the Brinsea as the incubator and the Genesis 1588s as hatchers.

Ooooh, If you get some breeding stock of the UofA birds .. could I get some of the chicks in about 2 years, the ones they call tentatively the "Arkansas Blue"? I read that whole thread and they sound really cool, but I couldn't figure out how I could get any.
