Hey, thanks for the welcome!

Basically I am looking for a pet rooster to look over my hens; if he can tolerate being picked up by children, stand up to dogs, and not beat up on the silkies I would be happy.

We have the dog issue under control right now, but Mt. Shasta is the world's largest off-leash dog park so who knows for how long.

We currently have 2 americauna hens, one Barnevelder and 3 silkies.

It's so fun seeing what everyone has! We are just starting our flock, so not sure what we'll end up with when all is said and done. We bought four little EEs from the feed store yesterday and have an order of 25 coming on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. 15 Brown Layer assortment and 2 Austrolorps, 2 Columbian Wyandottes, 2 Buff Orpington Hens and 1 Roo, 1 Partridge Cochin hen and 1 Roo and 1 RIR hen. We also want a few Silkies. I have a question, those of you that have ducks, what do you keep them for? Here are the EEs! Buffle, the leader. I love his/her puffy cheeks. Tiny, my daughter's favorite. She named her. Novalee, the pretty one Huckle, the lovable homely one

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have been to the small animal swap in Anderson; I am looking to find a new roo and was wondering if anyone knows whether it would be possible to find one there. Hi christina Im up at the swap once a month usually during the winter but during the summer i plan to be there every week if i can. Its almost 2 miles from my house. I might have a roo for you!!

21 chicks? how wonderful! For the first time in my life, I have baby chicks which is a wonderful experience to watch them grow; utter delight!
I have a 5 yr. old Australorp, 6 yr. old Black Copper Marans, 2 Heritage RIR pullets, 2 mystery breed pullets (one of which lacks any tail), and 14 black, blue and lavender Orpington babies. Since the babies' sex is yet unknown, have no idea what my numbers will be.
I love Orpington and HRIR., breeds, and had several of each in the past but, they were never bred. All were purchased as pullets, and lived with us into their old age. Some reached the age of 12 & 13. Having baby Orpingtons is a dream come true for me. I am thankful to Deann-juststruttingfarms-for these lovely babies.
Now, I am looking forward to having Jubilee, Crele, and Partridge Orpingtons, as well.

15 Barnevelder hens/pullets
2 Barnevelder cockerels

9 blue Barnevelder hens/pullets
2 blue Barnevelder cockerels

8 "cornevelder" hens/pullets that are essentially Barnevelders with a drop of Dark Cornish blood added. (pretty much considered "pure" at this time). I love these girls and they lay such pretty eggs

So that means 36 chickens total

I AM NOT counting the 45 eggs with strong veins and wiggly embryos in the bator at day 7 . I removed a 5 clears today. 3 clears were from my friends flock, but she has one roo and 17 hens that free range all day and some of the eggs were smaller pullet eggs. Her roo just might not be able to keep up with that many hens scattered all over the place.

I also don't think one should count chicks or incubating eggs LOL.
