Just wanted to let you all know that my sister's surgery went well yesterday! They did a double mastectomy and took out 2 lymph nodes which were clear. Praise God! She has a long road to recovery and a year for the reconstruction but we are just thankful that the cancer is out of there. Monet and I are staying with my nieces and doing fun girl things while mommy is in the hospital. It even managed to snow yesterday here in Denver so Monet got to play in the cold stuff.

And those duck pictures are gorgeous. Their almsot so perfect they almost look fake. They really are beautiful :-)

No chicks yet but I heard PEEPING!!!!

Elizabeth that is exciting! Just so you know, I hatched some frizzled chicks from that pen last week. Don't be surprised if you have some that start feathering out curly :)

Betty has been sitting on eggs since Jan18. She is on a delayed batch right now that I placed under her Jan21. She hatched one of my EE eggs 3 days passed the 21. So that's why I have delayed removing these 4. I almost threw away the EE egg she hatched- I had literally walked half way to dispose of it and thought better of it and returned it. next day- hatch! lol Anyhoo...

Should I remove all these eggs? They are like 4 days past the 21 days but so was my EE and Buff egg she hatched. She has been a healthy broody. She gets up about 2 times a day to eat, drink, forage, mate with Gary, and take a dust bath. So she is leaner than before but she isn't scary.

Give the eggs anymore time, toss...thanks!

Pick them up, smell them and if they do not stink, gently tap them and listen for peeping. If you do not hear peeping, carefully make a hole in the top to see if they is a chick a live in there. If alive, put it back!

4 days late, there is not likely much chance that the chick is alive. Even if low temps delayed hatching, 4 days would be too long.

Blunt end or pointy end make a tiny hole?

Yes and it is endorsed by George RR Martin! It even has commentary and readings from the books.

The soup was delicious too. Of course I made the chicken stock from one of the Cockerel left overs--back pieces and wings. I had a little bit of store chicken stock, so I added that, water, the bones, a bit of salt, some baby carrots, onion, several celery stalks, jalapeno pepper, bottom of a Napa cabbage and broccoli stocks. That was put under pressure for 1 hour in a pressure cooker. For the veggies In the broth I use stuff in my veggie bin so it is different every time. The pepper gave it a bit of a nice bite too.

We then followed the recipe but added a bit more of everything to get the servings up from 4.
