We had a power outage today for no apparent reason!!! I wrapped foil around my incubator, and when the power didn't come back on I took it outside and set it in the sun. Nice thing about the Octagon 20 advance ex (auto humidity) having no water wells and being an easy size to move around. The power was out for more than an hour, and when it came on I quickly plugged back in the incubator and it read 91 degrees. Hopefully the eggs will just hatch a little late

In answer to the question about what accessories the Octagon 20 comes with~ yes it comes with the metal, moveable rails and the spongey inserts.
Don't worry about it!

Your new Octagon also has a cool down cycle. The recommendation is to allow the eggs to cool down for two hours per day starting at day 7 and going until day 18.

You are supposed to get a chick or two more per hatch using the cool down cycle. That is supported by University research too, not Brinsea.

Edited to add: They will still hatch on time! That short of a cool down will not change incubation time.

I entered pictures of the only two broodies I have had so far. Broody's with babies are SO sweet!

My Octagon 20 is not the new one with the cool down cycle. I have been hatching eggs with it since the beginning of last year. I have read lots of posts where the eggs have gone even longer without heat, so mine should be ok. Thanks for the encouragement

I read about the benefits of the cool down period each day that mimics the hen getting off of the nest to eat and drink. I have always candled often (addicted) and don't worry about the eggs getting cooled while I am doing it

I get great hatches . . maybe that is why!

Be sure to check out the other contests too! Some great prizes!

I totally forget about these. When they say no PS does that mean no editing? I shoot in RAW which means it's basically the negative (flat and dull) and unlike JPG files (point and shoots and even cell phone cameras shoot JPG which means it's automatically processed in camera). So at least capture editing has to be applied- although I don't use Photoshop. I use Lightroom. ahhh I am stressing!
