Quote: They can be mixed.

Epicurious' food dictionary defines Mother of Vinegar as: A slimy, gummy substance made up of various bacteria — specifically mycoderma aceti — that cause fermentation in wine and cider and turn them into vinegar. Known as mère de vinaigre in French and sometimes simply as "mother" in English, its growth is best fostered in a medium-warm environment (60°-85°F). The mother should be transferred to a new mixture or discarded once the liquid has turned to vinegar.

The mother means it has the correct bacteria in it.

Haha Mark has pointed that out to me, too.

I keep meaning to share this, it's a card we found at Target. Hope the language doesn't bother anyone! If it does I can delete it :)

I liked it so much we brought it home and framed it

bahhaha! LOL I don't use that kind of 'language' but still find it hilarious!

Thanks, Ron! Can you check out my video of my new babies?

Quote: I did look at the video!

Very nice looking chicks too

They have a Bramah shape to them and the EE color pattern. I can't tell if the comb is Straight, pea or combo. If they picked up the Blue Gene, then they should lay a nice bluish to mint green colored egg.

Do you see feathers on their feet or legs? They are going to be Stout as adults!

Please look at this short video & tell me what you all think I have :) I was told that the mama was Ameraucauna/ Brahma xix, fertilized by Ameraucana roo. My first hatch I got 50%!! Not bad for a homemade bator!! So here are my babies <3 Bebe is the biggest & it's only 15 days old, but HUGE!!... they all hatched between 2/13-2/19. Anybody know what they are (besides chickens) & if anyone has an idea on who may be a boy/girl?
Thanks guys!!! I have better individual pics, but they don't like to be still :)
Based on what was bred to what, you should just call them all Easter Eggers. By attitude, I'd say that biggest one is a boy. When you are not talking single comb birds, it's a little harder to sex young chicks. Usually by the time they are a few weeks old you can make a guess. The boys will get wattles quicker and they will pink up faster.

It's also been my experience that boys will feather over the shoulder quicker than girls. I first noticed that about 30 years ago when raising meat birds. I'm talking the area over the shoulders between the wings. Girls stay down longer and boys get little feathers peeking through.

Another month or so and there shouldn't be any question. Good luck with them.

... So should I just consider them EE's? YES!!! All but my first (Big Bebe) have furry feet like their mama!! My little buff, Chanel, (looks like G-ma) has furry legs, but not feet :) Stout adult EE's?? I will get better pics of their combs to see if you can tell.

Thanks, Deb!!! Bebe did get the shoulder feathers really quick! The one hatched the day after doesn't even have them yet & neither do the others. What do you think about the cute little buff, Chanel? OMG!!! So sweet!
