Question: how early can you clip wings? My 3 week old chick who's a suspect roo had roosted on top of the brooder all night! Lol. Don't want to clip too soon.
Congrats, Ron!

I took 10 laying hens. $20ea and sold them all within 15 minutes. I was thinking about loading back up and heading back up there....
Good luck with your hatch!

Ron, do you know if Bresse tend to be flighty? The trio that I got all have a clipped wing. They sure do remind me of white leghorns with blue legs! You only clip one wing!
You can clip now, but you will have to clip again soon--Juvenile molt is still coming and then the feathers will grow back in.
You clip one wing because they can still manage to fly with two short wings. Also, they often use the wings for balance as they jump up stuff to get to that high perch they want. One wing clipped messes up their balance and they do not fly.

So far the pullet I have does not seem to be particularly flighty. She is calmer than the CCL x CP(Crested Cream Legbar X Crele Penedesenca) those guys are crazy and they do seem to fly well.
My guess is that they will not fly too much when they start getting big. Some people just clip the wing. Luckily the person you got yours from does not trim the Beak. I do not like that one.
They are supposed to be crazy Foragers. In France they only forage for the first several months and then they are penned and eat that special diet they give them. My little pullet does not seem to forage better than the others so far.
