I can't keep up with you guys!!!

LOL I just wanted to update anybody interested on my sick EE, Flossie. She's been on the Duramycin, ACV, Probiotics & no dairy for 2 full days. She has laid the last 2 days, she's keeping up her appetite, too, but the cough is still there. It's more like a honking sometimes. I haven't seen much nasal drainage anymore, but she still sneezes. So far so good on the rest of my girls!! No signs of any cough & with quite a bit of probiotic, ACV, oat bran, yogurt & buttermilk with garlic water, their poo is getting better!!! YAY! I hope Flossie kicks this cough quickly.
Do I stay on the Duramycin for 14 days no matter what?
I hope everybody is doing well.

I'm glad to hear that most of yours are getting back to normal. Mine are finally back to mostly regular poos and they are drinking about two thirds less water than they had been during the diarrhea ordeal. Guess it just was a matter of time to heal after the worming. Next time I will not wait so long to attempt worming. Seems like it really messed them up.

It's funny, but out of my 11 girls, it's the hatchery EE, Monkey, that has the upper respiratory symptoms like your Flossie. She even laid an egg today, but it is extremely pale, barely green. I have Denagard on order and should get it this week, so will treat the whole flock. I was going to separate Monkey, but the only good place I have is in the garage, and I thought this would be too close to the new chicks in the house. The big girls have already been exposed, and Monkey is not worse, but I hope that Denagard arrives quickly.

Thanks again to all for your support and advice. I would have been a mess without this thread!

So the Brinsea lost 2 degrees and 2% humidity while I candled. I took an egg out at a time, replacing the lid each time. The humidity pump was going crazy and now it's up to 67% humidity and the temp is back to 99.6, 25 minutes after candling. What's up with that? do I need to open the lid and release some humidity? It's never been over 40%.

Yew, unfortunately the only way to LOWER the humidity is to raise the lid and let some of the moisture escape. I kinda tip it to one side, still cupping the heat in, sort of, for about 10 seconds. Then I check it again in 30 minutes to see how it's doing. If it's still high, I do it again. This usually gets it close enough to the target humidity to leave it be and let it slowly reach the target through normal operation.

But that's just me....

Okay BigDaddysMom how did you get so many Multi quotes on ONE???? I can only do Multi quotes from the same page, if I switch pages they disappear....?

You know I was just thinking about this particular situation. Do you suppose the Roo was trying to mate your daughter, hence the jumping on her back? (don't read into that anymore than him thinking she was a chicken) Or was it a dominance thing and an attack? One can only guess I suppose as to his intentions. I was thinking that if I had one and was gardening or whatever, what is the likelihood of them jumping on me would be. I am supposing if he doesn't see me as the head rooster he may try that. Sort of just thinking out loud here......

He had been challenging her for a while, so I am pretty sure it was an act of aggression.

Wow, I had so much catching up to do. Congrats on the new pets and hatches and I'm sorry for the losses suffered. I would go through and do the multiquote thing but for some reason firefox is acting up on me and won't let me do it. In exciting news my incubator is finished! The best part it after about 2 hours on it seems to be holding the temperature rather steadily. Who knew an Ikea cabinet and some plexiglass could turn out so nice.

It's 21" wide x 24" deep and 30" tall. Now I just need some fertile eggs to test it out. My Serama hens are coming on Thursday and one girl will be laying fertile eggs. However she does go broody so I don't know if I should incubate those or let her do it.

In other news we finally have started construction of our big coop, well, big for us. We're building a 3' wide x 6' deep x 7' tall coop that's we're attaching to a 5x10 dog run. It'll be elevated about 3 ft off the ground so they'll get even more space underneath to run around since we'll be attaching welded wire to the base. Sadly though our little circular saw sucks so we had to cut about half of the pieces by hand, hopefully it'll be able to go through the plywood.

BYC works best with Internet Explorer. Chrome is ok and Fire Fox works well but spell check and a couple of other things are Wonky.
I use Fire Fox and spell check works and I can do the multi quotes from page to page. I'm able to do the same through Safari on my iPhone.

Wow Deb! Do you have a cockerel for sale? I'd add "from a dark egg" but I don't see any eggs that I wouldn't take a chicken from! How did I miss that you have such dark eggs? I've been looking for a BCM for my Blue Copper Marans. Are all your chicks from your current hatch sold? Do you ship eggs? That roo looks bad @$$! I hear the song..."I'm...too sexy for my...."
Quote: After another 1/2 hour it was back to normal. Maybe I hit something lifting the lid when I was candling???? But it's all back to normal now. Could you tell if that's a blood ring in my picture? I know it's hard to see in the picture.

And I too love the expression on the roo! He KNOWS he is a gorgeous fellow!

Its a purely mechanical process. As you candled, if you opened the lid for each egg, the humidity sensor ordered the pump to start. Water starts moving in the tube. You close the lid, the incubator is still working to boost the humidity. You lift the lid, the sensor orders more water. By the time you are done candling, the sensor has ordered more water and the pump has already pushed too much water.

I can't tell anything about candled eggs, sorry. I seldom candle any incubating eggs.

Ya, I figured that's what it was doing, it was complaining the whole time! But I was surprised when it read so high. Then when I was getting ready to open it, it was back down.
