Quote: Anyone can show at any show. I can see where Stockton might have been intimidating because of all the national meets and the huge entry. This will be a small show, so a good place to get your feet wet. It also has the advantage that you can coop in Sat. morning and the birds will be released the same day. We'll be spending the night so we can coop in on Friday, but only because I obsessively bring so many birds.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your birds Deb.

I was going to enter our few in my name but Mariah is getting more interested since she doesn't have to compete in showmanship.

I think we will come down on Friday also, after school lets out. All depends on if DH comes with us or stays home to watch basketball and collect eggs.

Do you know if it's the type of show, like Stockton, for pros only? Or can a novice, like me, who just wants to have some experience and has not quite top show quality birds, enter?

At the few small shows I've been to the judges have always been open to discussing your breed with you, pointing out what they look for when placing the birds, things to improve, etc. I don't know this judge but most are willing to share their knowledge.

Happy Monday everyone!

It sounds like the chickens are on the mend for those with sick ones!

Capayvalley chick! Thanks Kim for posting that article on Coci. The Manure test UCD performed on the sample I sent in tested for coci. There was a small amount in the chicken yard and luckily it has been dry lately. I am keeping a close eye on them now.

This morning I was doing the chicken chores in the dark and my Bresse pullet was not in the pen! I searched the other pens and the plum tree to see where she was. I did not find a pile of feathers so I kept looking. There are not that many places to hide at my place in the City.... I found her in the corner behind the shed. She was fine but would not let me pick her up. Not being one to do the chicken chase, I went to the Garage and grabbed my fishing net. That made the job much easier.

I think she was small enough to get out using the egg collecting hole. I am going to have to double bolt that thing.

Hey everyone! Just dropping in to say Hi!
I'm from the Placerville area.
Welcom ERBryson! It's a great thread, full of information and encouragement! There are lots of people around you.
Spell as you go does not work on any of my computers with firefox. If I right click on the mis spelled word, it wants to copy and paste. Regular spell check works. Spell as you go works with IE.
Oh, you're talking about the spell check in reply...yes, it does bring up the paste option. You have to use the spell check in the reply box. I just thought that was the forum, it's the browser? I love FireFox and never use IE anymore but may be worth it to bring it up for BYC.

Thanks Pam! Actually I do have a spare. I've got three boys and I don't really need more than one right now. I thought I knew who was for sale (actually the one above is the one I was selling), but let me take another look at them this week. I had a couple of inquiries left when I sold out the last batch, so I'd need to contact those people first, but otherwise none of the current (I forget, I have 12-18 in right now). And I do ship eggs also.

It is their "First Annual". I think the club had shows years ago in a different location and they are now reestablished and starting in Red Bluff. The judge listed is John Monaco for Open. Entries must be postmarked by the 15th. (Dang, I need to decide who's going and get mine in).

You do? Oh my, how did I miss asking you and you miss my post saying I needed one? OK, soooooo....if those others don't want your spares, I will take one. I can pick him up at the Red Bluff show. So excited that the show is in Red Bluff. So close to me! I'll PM you!

Boy, I'm tempted to bring my Blue Copper Marans and maybe one of my Polish hens. I've never shown before and I'd like to get my grandkids into it so maybe I'll bring them along. Really excited about this.

If bringing kids or grandkids be prepared to add new breeds to the flock. They always want what you don't have.
I think I just described everyone on this thread. I'm in trouble with anything partridge.

If I didn't thank you before, Kim, thank you so much for posting the link for this article! This is day 3 on Sulmet and they all look so much better. I thought that the bloody poos were gone yesterday morning but they had another round of them right after I posted. But I haven't found any bloody poos since early yesterday afternoon so I'm assuming the worst is over with. I'm keeping a close eye on everyone else just in case.

That is so true! Monet picks out at least one new breed every time we go to a show! She doesn't always get them but her want list is getting quite long!
