I use Lysol all purpose cleaner--lemon scented. It kills 99.9% of germs and smells good too!

I hatch in cartons so most of the debris are caught in it. I get as much out and into the cartons and then take the bottom to the shower. It all gets a soaking and then a cleaner spray and then I let it sit briefly. I use a tooth brush to scrub the wires and gently clean the bottom with it.

I also use a Q tip to clean the vent holes. It is amazing how much can get into those. I then use the shower to rinse it all off and the let it air dry. The top with the electronics get a careful cleaning with a sprayed wash rag. I also use air duster to clean the fans and the temperature sensor.

I did all of that quickly on Monday after hatching SG Dorkings and Delawares. Now I am hatching blue black and splash Black Australorps. I may wind up with all black though.....We will see......

Okay, I like this idea. Mine still smells a bit after the diluted bleach cleaning I did last night. The actual Styrofoam didn't get that dirty, but it marinated in the smell for a few days and soaked it up. I didn't even realize the bottom had those vent holes until I poured water all over my feet!!!! Love the shower idea too and the air duster!

They hands down have the most unusual peppers tomatoes and herbs i have found, but you want to get there early. Very knowledgeable volunteers too.

I DO sell quail, in fact I sell a metric ton of quail. They are very popular with the hispanic population, younger people and apartment dwellers. They are legal everywhere, semi quiet ( they do crow, but they sound like birds, so it doesn't bother people as much, and the hens are quiet) small and don't make a ton of mess. This is not why we originally got quail, but it is why I have 3 pens of them. You cant have Mario to process them! he is MINE MINE MINE!!! I got him when he was 18 and have spent almost 20 years training him! That's work I say! However, if you want help or moral support or anything, I do lend him out. he is learning caponising right now for our Bresse and so I can keep Iggy. I did not hear back from my friend in Sonoma who knows someone from Africa who teaches it, so we are practicing on roos we are processing after they have been killed until. he feels he has gotten it. These are not the skills you'd expect from an IT guy and engineer. When we moved to our own house he became this totally different handy man bird and pet person I never knew, it was awesome!

I did have that happen once, when Mario closed up the vent holes trying to get humidity up to 80% for the Turkey hatch. (NEVER do that!!!) It was freaky and horrible and gross. I went to put eggs in it and screamed bloody murder. Needless to say we didn't hatch in that that day....

You really need to get the mold out, it can kill chicks very easily, good catch.

I purchase my Oxine from Revival. I think that's where it is from if you buy it on Amazon. I have prime and have never seen it available on prime. I found that the shipping was less if I ordered it straight from Revival.

Maybe I can trade you cot eggs for the girl chicken that turned out to be a boy! I bet you DH would not freak out about picking those up . I will go straight to revival, that is exactly what I was wondering, ty!

For some reason I really like the White Leghorn. Maybe it is my early cartoon influence.... do you sell/ship eggs? Or maybe what part of No. CA are you in again? Maybe you are close enough I could pick them up?

FUNNY!!!! I would never dream of taking your Mario twenty year project! I totally agree that is work and lots of it!!!

Wow again! Caponising..... that is interesting in itself. I see that it makes them gain weight and it has to be done fairly early. I didn't think about this being an option, but it is an interesting thought. I would like a Rooster too but the crowing..... ugh!

Would oxine work for cleaning out the smelly bator? I've never used it, but does seem to have a'broad spectrum.

I use Oxine in the incubator water (7 drops to a gallon of water) and boy does it keep the smell down during hatching and after! I also scrub my incubator with a little dawn dish soap and finish with an Oxine water bath that stays on. I then put the incubator out in the sun (when possible) to dry which also kills germs

HEY! That would be AWESOME! I like experiments too! I really miss my girl "Red", yes I know original name, but she got the ugly end of an Opossum at the farm she went to . She was their favorite too.

OK It will have to wait a bit because I am worming all the birds next week but by mid May I should be able to get it together. How many do you want? ETA let me know if you want to toss in some of my Red Star eggs too. I can cross them with the RIR roo or I can leave them in with Ray the wonder roo of unknown pedigree

I was just talking to my daughter-in-law and showing her the birds we got from you. She saw the cockerel who would be a pullet and wanted to know what kind he was. I was telling her about it and said that maybe I would just get cot eggs from you instead of another EE!!! 30 min. later, I got on the computer and saw what you wrote!
