I checked the site stats and we are:

#6 busiest thread for the last day
#7 busiest thread for the last week
#8 busiest thread for the last 30 days

We do not make the all time list yet but should get there by next year--we are catching up quickly.

(That smiley looks pretty happy, but imagine it has more of a nervous look on its face). With the Genesis 1580 do you put water in the troughs for lockdown, or just add another Tupperware or sponge? And with the sponge how often do you need to wet it?

The woman I am getting the Calico Cochins from is waiting to send the eggs so I don't think I'll have to do a staggered hatch. Isn't that nice? Chicken people tend to be, I've noticed. I just am so glad to know you all - so happy we moved to Northern California before getting chickens!

I dreamed I heard the chickens super early this morning so definitely tramped out in my boots and undies to make sure everyone was okay

. They were. Glad we don't have any close neighbor, I bet it won't be the last time.

OK, so depressing lesson of the day:

When My incubator was acting up and I was having horrible hatches, I was having to help a lot of stuck chicks out. I lost a dew and sent them into UC Daivs. They got bacteria from their yolk sacks. :(

Luckily I'm not having to do that anymore, but it reminds me to both oxine my hatch er once a week, and not help if I don't have to!

Should I maybe give ones I help in the future some antibiotics? aarg.

I use a tupperware wiht a spnge in it, as long as the chicks cant drown in it, its cleaner to do it that way then the trays.

It depends on how much humidity is at your place. I have been filling all the channels and tanks on mine. A couple of times I have added a sponge to get it to 70% humidity.

Happy Hatching!

Super exciting! I put water in the troughs and a sponge too and mine only went up to 65%.

Boots and Undies! Now that's a good look!

PetRock:

I have a question on how you are using the Oxine. I looked it up on Revival and there is an option for it to come with Citric Acid crystals to activate it..... do you use it that way? I am not very familiar with this product so I am unsure about the Citric Acid part.
