Hi Pam!

I did go to bed early last night--I get up at 5 each morning. This is the main thread for me. It is where the cool kids hang out:

I will finally get to post a couple of a splash Blue Egg Layer today. I need to get to the computer with Photoshop first though..
I never was one of the cool kids....... more of a band geek. Now I am a chicken geek......
I finally have hatched a shipped Penedesenca Chick! One was out this morning and the second was almost out.

Sadly the one that is out looks like a pullet....Just kidding you can't tell gender with Black Penes. Also, I am not a Rooster Whisperer like Happy Chooks....

I will post pictures of them tonight.
Yay for the chicken with too many E's in its name.....

Hi Pam!!!!

I'm still here too. Come prowl the turkey thread. It's a very casual hatch along. It only has to be a bird (wait...........reptiles are okay too), it only has to be an egg and incubating sometime in the same time period, give or take a week.

We are not real organized, just happy! I was crazy and set 54 turkey eggs!!! But then I already knew I was crazy.

I just completed a hatch of 62 chicks on Tues/Wed. Last night (Thurs) my next hatch started. Six chicks out already and a bunch more pipped. Since there were a bunch of serama eggs, they started early. I didn't have time to do a final candling with chicks already out, so I just locked down everything without a final look. That's about another 90 eggs.

Someone needs to explain to me that when you buy a cabinet incubator that holds 300+ eggs, it doesn't have to run full all the time. Apparently so far I have missed that message.
Since you all mentioned this thread I had to go see what all the fuss was about..... Gryeyes (I can't remember how she spells it) description of Turkey sex was pretty hilarious.
Thanks Kim!

I will send an email to Michelle to find out when they go to public Sale.
Yeah, I bet you could resell them to some psycho's ... I mean chicken people on here.....
Our first baby just hatched!!

). There are 10 other pips!! None of the store bought eggs have pipped, I wonder if they'll take longer. I have to admit this whole process has reminded me a little of being pregnant and giving birth, but without the physical discomfort. The two eggs next to the one that hatched are the most active, which makes me wonder if there's a hot spot or something. They have been moved around during their incubation, though, so not sure.

The sweetest chick I have ever seen

I'm feeling a little worried about the one next to it. It has that big piece chipped away and I can see it moving, but it has that off colored spot on the membrane. How normal is that?

Anyway, I'm unspeakably excited and in love. I'm uploading videos to YouTube so I can post them, although the commentary is probably shrill.
Look at how cute that baby is!!!! How long did it take from pip to out do you think?

I do wish I had the facilities to do what you do...sigh What do you do with everyone?
The eggs have made it to Grants Pass!!!
YeeeHawwww

Do any of you in Sonoma County buy your feed/supplies from Hunt and Behrens in Petaluma? Can you give me any intel. Do they carry King??

what is PDZ?

3 cheers for pip!!!

I know I SAID I wasn't going to peak at my eggs but Renee wanted me to and when I did this is what I saw...The Prairie Rangers, her dual pupose project bird, look the most promising. I have 3 of them and can see veining in all. I think the 3 Part. Chateclers are all questionable. Two are clear at the top and dark at the bottom and I can't see veins, the other is clear at the bottom and dark and the top and I can't see veins. as far as the other six eggs I haven't a clue. Something is going on but I can't tell what. When I candle the green eggs they light up all neon but I can't see into them well enough/I am not experienced enough to know. The Orps and Rocks I can see into more clearly but it's the same story

Now if everything were like a Dorking egg, life would be simpler. That's like having a little window into the egg and is VERY satisfying

I think my Ray was shooting blanks after all

There is one Australorp egg that looks promising but of the 7 of his that I put in the bator 6 are totally clear when compared with the others...I think what I was seeing before was the yolk or something. Now the 6 eggs from my uncles red pen all seem to have clear veining

I think I will remove any totally clear eggs tomorrow. That's Day 7 then we will see what happens with the rest. Hopefully my husband and son will alert me to funky odors since I can't smell but I have heard too many stories of people giving up on eggs only to find perfectly formed babies in the eggtopsy to not give the questionable ones a shot.

My girls are happy! They have been out since about 3:45 and dust bathing, basking and scratching. They are such a nice little flock.

ETA: Why am I not satisfied hmmmmmm
PDZ is Sweet PDZ. It is a horse stall refresher. Doesn't hurt chickens and keeps the smell down.

I am ALL about anything that will help with the smell.

Yay!!!!! Do you know what it is???
She's from Deann's mixed laying flock, which includes:

The Ladies
Swedish Flower hens
Basque
Dark Brahma
Lakkenvelders
Partridge Rock
Cornish Rock
Easter Eggers
Polish
Icelandic
Orpingtons
Mille Fleur Leghorns
Cream Legbar
Olive Eggers
Welsummer
Phoenix
Coshin
Dominque

Roosters:
Cream Legbar
Olive Eggers
Swedish Flower

But she's from a brown egg, so that narrows it down.

Deb, what variety of turkeys are you incubating?

Pam, if you were closer, I would help you out with the King Feed. Do all the pallets have to be the same kind? Do they give any discount for buying in bulk?

Nice pics Ron. Good thing you caught her! I keep thinking about those incubators. Oh and congrats on the Pene!

I have blue slate & RP, so the poults will be BS, RP, blue Palm, Lilac or Black.
