Yup they are all on there. All none of them.
I set aside 7 for me...
ahhh the Australorps sure know the cool chickens when they see themI will get some tomorrow! They are still hanging with the Australorps.
That is a great story!
Watch the little ones for Coccidiosis 8 weeks is the age mine seem to get it, if they get it.
They aren't a breed you can sex at hatch (well, I can't anyway, LOL). They can be sexed within a few weeks. I don't remember where you're located.
Jason, I could put some more in for you. I LOVE to hatch and trying to convince myself I don't need to fill all 500 spots in the incubators all the time with my own eggs, LOL
The worst part is no..................that's not all, LOL That's just the ones I can supply hatching eggs
love it...Thanks for the pro-tip Ron!
I'll keep an eye out; I'm kind of experienced in basic chicken care as I grew up on a farm with chickens from the age of 5-12, but it's been a long time since I was 12 and it was definitely not my job to worry about or cure things like Coccidiosis when I was little. So far all the chicks have looked clean, healthy, and had great appetites (I feel that my experience with chickens is sufficient so that I would recognize illness pretty early on), but I have now looked up all the symptoms and treatments of Coccidiosis just in case.
From the basic reading I've done, it seems like I've taken appropriate preventative measures. From the time they were just a week or two old I've been taking them out into the yard on warm afternoons and letting them slowly build up their little immune systems. Now they spend most of their time in a coop outside which I can move around the yard to keep their living area nice and clean with minimal effort, but whenever I am home and for probably at least 1-3 hours a day they are free-ranging. I trained them to drink out of a water bottle so their water isn't getting contaminated, and they have a mesh-bottom cage at night to sleep in so that they aren't stampeding through fecal material. Naturally, there's always that chance that cleanliness and free-ranging just isn't enough, so it is good to know that this age is a dangerous one!
Quote: Good Job!
After 12 weeks or so they will be past the danger time. cocci seems to be worse in some places. Hopefully your place does not have it or one of the bad types.
