I'm dying. The first chick is so cute.

Baby goosies! I'm extra extra dying! I'm trying to hatch some more now. Hubby and I agree all baby birds just about are adorable but for us- baby geese are just the absolute cutest. What type did you get?

I love the Africans and I wouldn't mind having a dewlap toulouse pair too. hehe
Someone in Danville is selling a 2 yr old breeding pair of toulouse geese on craigslist. They are asking $30 for the pair. I guess that they are too noisy!

PetRock - I have my Oxine and I am not certain of the mixing ratio. Mine has all the directions smudged out. Looks like it got wet or something and I can't read most of it.... since you are the Oxine advocate, do you know the mixing ratio?

I've gotten really bad about measuring. I know how much to add to the humidifier but when it comes to using it as a disinfectant, I just pour a dab in my sprayer and add water. Here is a thread that talks about using it.

I also use it instead of bleach in my incubator. I had no problems with smells and I had a staggered hatch so it was running for 24-25 days straight.

Not PetRock, but we're both Deb/Debi. I put 1/4 teas in a gallon of water. I use that as the water in my incubators for hatching. I put 1/4 teas in a quart of water and that's what I use when I'm disinfecting my incubators. 1/4 teas equals about 12 drops (I forget exactly, but I measured it out once)

We Debs are legion, I tell you! I should be more careful about measuring my oxine. I would use far less, I'm sure!

That is odd about the smell.

Another tip is to put a penny in the water channel--copper sulfate is a fungicide.

Got a beautiful 1st egg from one of my Blue Barnevelder pullets on Sunday. She's 24 weeks. Now waiting for the other 2 to start.
I am sooooo far away from eggs! I have been on store eggs for 2 years now. Blah!

Well, Ron - then I have no idea other than it's certainly NOT a wellie.

Bottom chick here is a welsummer.
Well if only the bottom one is a Wellie what are the others?

I'm not!

They were only running around for about 15 minutes while we played with them. This afternoon they are going out to the outside shed from the house brooders. I like to keep my babies indoors about a week so I can watch them closely. After I put them back, I had to clean up about 20 spots, LOL. We are in the middle of remodeling the house. As soon as I finish all my painting, the carpet is all being removed and replaced. You wouldn't even believe how old the carpet is, believe me, you couldn't make it worse with a little goose poop, LOL

The two Cayuga that I hatched out a couple of months ago were the gateway drug, LOL

You have way more energy than me to run around behind geese cleaning up poop spots!!!

I want two or three little Cayugas....... *sigh* One project at a time I guess.

I will just call everyone Debi..... makes it easy for me! Thanks for the measurements.

Alli I looked at some of mine too. The ones that I thought were viable at lockdown all were. They had fully formed chicks inside and it makes me sad. My husband reminded me to focus on what is in the brooder not on what didn't make it there. He's pretty great like that.

I think you did a super job. 26 out of 35 is a good rate. 7 of 14 is what I got then last night I lost one. It had pasted and I had taken care of that but it died in the night. so I am down to 6 of 14. I will ask for a Brinsea Mini Advance for my birthday and leave the future hatching to it and the broodies.

Question re Poly Vi Sol, Should I just give reg/sugar water instead of the Durvet? I don't want to OD Curly on vitamins.
Got news for ya! The Mini won't be big enough!

I am really lucky any made it considering the temperature issues, but just seeing that fully formed chick was a bummer.

Deann breeds Cream Legbar x Crele Penes--That very well could be one of those. The ones I hatched were all pullets so I do not have a picture of the Cockerels.

It could be an Olive Egger or a Cream Legbar. It is probably a pullet like you said though.
It might be the Olive Egger #1 because Deann said they grow up to look like Cream Legbars. We will see!

Do they bother putting copper in pennies any more?

Our week old goslings cruising in the living room with DH.
it's amazing how quickly they grow.

And tomorrow the rest of the crew is supposed to arrive

The goslings are so smart and so personable........................I could have just them!
They are adorable! But really? Only geese? I don't believe it!!

Quote: When you reach your hand into a bin of chicks, they scatter unless you have handled them constantly. When you reach your hand into a bin of goslings, they come running to you and nibble at your fingers. (I know I shouldn't let them do that, cute when they're a week old, probably less cute when they weigh 20 pounds

)

We were lying on the rug with them, they all came up and laid down next to me, snuggled up against my body. Literally, I've had them 5 days and they are totally attached. I am Mommy! When I walk around the living room, they follow me everywhere, so funny and endearing.
