glad you are able to bring them home with you rather than having to go to work and wonder what was happening. I'm hoping mine wait to hatch until I'm home from my Farmer's Market day, didn't think about that when I set them.

That is an that was an infertile! A fertile egg would have something in it.
Clear eggs=not fertile.

Blood rings are usually a fertile egg that had bacteria in it.

I've had more luck breaking the top off eggs by hitting with the back of a knife in the air cell area. Most times the yolk is staying intack, then I can peel down more of the shell, I've been able to pour into glass bowl or my hand to locate the disc/derm spot.

I'm not!    They were only running around for about 15 minutes while we played with them.  This afternoon they are going out to the outside shed from the house brooders.  I like to keep my babies indoors about a week so I can watch them closely.   After I put them back, I had to clean up about 20 spots, LOL.  We are in the middle of remodeling the house.  As soon as I finish all my painting, the carpet is all being removed and replaced.  You wouldn't even believe how old the carpet is, believe me, you couldn't make it worse with a little goose poop, LOL


There is a pair of brown Chinese and a trio of blue Americans.  Currently in transit to me (supposed to be here tomorrow) is a pair of brown Africans and sixteen ducklings, four each of Cayuga, Silky, Welsh Harlequin & Silver Appleyard.  I forgot how much I enjoyed waterfowl, it's been close to 20 years since I had any.  The two Cayuga that I hatched out a couple of months ago were the gateway drug, LOL

Not PetRock, but we're both Deb/Debi.  I put 1/4 teas in a gallon of water.  I use that as the water in my incubators for hatching.  I put 1/4 teas in a quart of water and that's what I use when I'm disinfecting my incubators.  1/4 teas equals about 12 drops (I forget exactly, but I measured it out once)

Oh, so that's why you sweetly smiled when I mentioned our crazy remodel ! Our current carpet is pink . The previous owner called it mauve. Lol! I'll be candling your eggs wednesday night- say a prayer!

All eggs have that spot. If it were fertile and was an early quitter you wold see a black dot or something bigger.

If I set 20 eggs and 15 of them develop into chicks and 5 are clears then those 5 are most likely not fertile. I would be concerned if all of them were clears and the Rooster had been with them.

When an egg is tested for fertility without incubation, a microscope is used to measure the size of the derm spot. The naked eye is not reliable for that.
