So I went to the feed store today to get some more chick food, and I was drawing a blank on Cocci. I couldn't remember the name or the name of the drug to treat it.

I asked the somewhat snooty young girl at the counter if they had any of the medication that comes IN the medicated feed. I was getting a non-medicated feed, and was just curious if they had any if they suddenly develop a problem with Cocci. It would be nice to go where I could get some locally.

She said, "OH yeah, that is the antibiotic over there. Dur something...." as in Duramycin.

Ugh! If it weren't for this website we would have some seriously ill /dead chickens based on the sound advice obtained from the feed store.

Ohh eggies!!
I have heard the density of the foam makes a big difference. There are ones that absorb shock and those that don't.

Stuffing tore off her cam and escaped!!

How funny! Did you take any vids of her with her cam on???

Good luck with the Langshan eggs PetRock! I really like the looks of them but I wonder about them in our extended heat waves.
Yep and they came from AZ where it is even hotter! He did send them to me for only the cost of postage. Hopefully, at least a handful will hatch!

That is why I do my own research. Don't take chick advice from feed stores, don't take fish advice from fish stores, don't take dog/cat nutrition advice from a vet. None of them are trained to know that information. Doing my own research has never once failed me! :) I always prefer to talk with the people who really know what they're doing, like on this forum.

too bad any of them are broke. Bummer . 5 is alot

I wait 4 normally but you may want to go 6 to 12. A day should not hurt but how old are the oldest eggs?
I was hoping that he would send them in bubble wrap using the Meek's method. I sent him the video but he sent me the eggs for free so I didn't want to be too pushy. I was actually pleased that only 5 out of 35 were broken and there wasn't yolk all over the other eggs. It could have been so much worse! Thank you for the advice on how long to wait. There was only one egg marked with a date and it was 4/13 so pretty old. I'm hoping that's the oldest egg.

I'm not a big fan of the foam shippers. It is difficult to get the eggs out and I got a shipment once that the egg just fell out and broke when I tried to pick up the foam to remove the rest of the eggs.

As Jason was saying, if the eggs are more than a few days old, I'd go ahead and put them under heat and just not turn on the turner for a few days. It's probably more important to not let them age anymore. Assuming of course they are up to room temp. That's the main thing I look at with shipped eggs.

Good luck, it would be nice to see you expand your Langshans.
Thanks, Deb! I would be more than thrilled to even have a few hatch out! I didn't have any problems taking the eggs out. I just gently pushed them through from the top. But foam would not be my first choice. I will report back on development in 10 or 11 days!

and unless you really know the shipper you never really know.
I leave my turner off 3 days but around 5 on the shipped ones for that reason
Jason, do you leave your turner off for 3 days even when hatching eggs from your chickens? I have 3 Bresse eggs and 2 Langshan eggs from my own birds that I plan on hatching at the same time as the Black Langshans.

Pretty Langshan eggs! Good luck with your hatch.

I don't like the foam shippers either. I received some eggs pack in it from another breeder. 2 were broken and several had detached air sacs. Out of 14 eggs, I got 2 to hatch. It wasn't the bator either, I had some other eggs in there and every single one hatched.
Thank you! I'm going to take the view that I will be thrilled if even 1 chick hatches! I am looking for a new black roo with a wider tail spread so a boy would be good. And I can always use a good looking pullet to put with my splash roo to make some pretty blue babies!
