I'm envious of you that can multi-quote. I do my reading on a tablet, if I try to reply to a large text I can't see anything, it's all off the screen. While running spell-check the buttoms are over the ads, can't tell you the number of times I've just given up because all I can do is open the ads.
It is pouring up here, thunder rumbling, can't see any lightning yet.
Here are my new EO's. Ended up with 7, which is what my husband is calling them all.

Thanks so much everyone for the supportive comments, it means so much knowing that there are caring people here. My mother-in-law is much better and came home today however my cousin is bad and could really use some healing thoughts.
And thanks for the wedding gift ideas! Tthe anniversary photo album idea is awesome!
I had some great chicken therapy this evening while the big girls and chicks were settling down for the night. This is the chicks' second night in the coop and they were all upset while trying to find a good place to roost. I put them on the roosting bar with the big girls but they jumped off and tried roosting on me instead. I felt bad leaving them but they need to figure it out! I just checked on them, one is comfy under the big girls and the rest are scattered around the coop. I'm just glad that the forecast lows aren't too bad - only down to the mid 40's here.
I'm pleased with them. They are still a little jumpy but they will learn guickly that nothing is going to get them and relax. After a few loads of laundry they will be pros.
The blrw make me smile when I open the food can, they all stand tall trying to see me when they hear it.
Pulled the clear egg under the little broody today, she was not happy but didn't go after me.
Davis was clear, clear, clear all day! Then around 6:00 PM I started roasting marshmallows and hotdogs in my little fire bowl in the backyard with some friends (chickens trying to jump into the bag with the hotdog buns and sneak a bite) and by 7:30 just as we were making s'mores it started pouring! We bustled everything inside...including the chicks. I think their coop is waterproof, but there seems to be a leak somewhere that I still have to sort out. I caught a few drops of water in the bottom of the coop last time it rained (it's a little coop I bought on Amazon, nothing fancy or home-made).
Also, a question: Do people regularly add supplements to chicken feed? I found a reasonably priced bag of flax seed the other day and thought I'd give it a try, they seemed to peck at it happily enough. I'd love a few more ideas for things to add to my basic Flock Raiser on a daily basis.
I don't know anyone who is planning on getting married within the next year or so, but I love the Anniversary Photo Album idea! Personal, well thought-out, not too time-consuming to prepare and reasonably priced!
Ugh...So many things. So sorry it's coming on you at all much less all at once. I think Deerling is on to something. A Gift Card to wherever they are registered will be appreciated and valued....Another thought that I like is a photo album in which you place a pic of the couple you take on the day of the wedding with instructions that they can then take a new pic of themselves every year on their Anniversary. That one is not something you can deliver on the wedding day anyway. kind of like this: http://www.thedatingdivas.com/marriage-101/anniversary-photo/
my goodness, what a chickeny afternoon -- gave a final exam this morning, several meetings at school, then drove up to Willits to collect 4 araucana chicks (just hatched last night) from Lanae Cash (thanks for the connection, Deb!!!!) to swap out for the unhatched eggs under Broody #2 (Frances, a SPPR) -- drove back down to discover that at least one chick under Broody #3 (Speedy, my rather grumpy-tempered CL) has hatched -- i could only see one little head peeping out, but didn't want to disturb if others were still hatching! everyone was in quite a stir with so much peeping going on. waited til dark, got the 27-day-old unhatched eggs out from under Frances, put in a couple of fake eggs + the four babies, and didn't hear any ominous sounds of "wait, where did you come from?" -- so hoping all is well. *fingers crossed*
collapsing in a chair & trying to think of an easy dinner to make...
(and will try to get some pictures tomorrow to share!)
Sounds like the poor mama will take the chicks and congrats on the newly hatched...how many is she sitting on? Don't you love when they peak out from under moms feathers? One of my favorite things.
We spent Sunday separating one of our shed coops into two coops to make the Marans pen. I'm so happy to have them in a safe spot. They were housed in our garden without any real cover. Poor things have endured some nasty winds.
Now all the roosters have to settle their territory through fences. The BCM got out the other day. I put him back but noticed I hadn't heard my EE roo crowing. Finally went to look for him and found him wound in a cord and a tarp. His eye was swollen shut and I had to cut him out! I'm guessing there was a fight.
So now the Polish roo keeps trying to pick a fight with the BCM but I can't blame him, the new guy and his 2 girls are in half his pen (we're expanding the run) and half his coop!
The Polish have a new entrance so they keep trying to come through the fence to come up their old ramp to go in the coop...stubborn little things! Two of them went through a little hole under the coop to go in through their normal door!! Aargh!
Do you like the sign my husband used to make the pop door?

Our dog Kate likes the new digs.
Hi everyone, no multi quote today.
Geek, I will send healing thoughts to your cousin. If they are registered anywhere that had an online store, I'd have hem send a present. I'm a very sentimental person. And when I use any of our wedding gifts I still, think of the person who gave it to me. This is one reason my huge kitchen aid is always out. Reminds me of my Nana. Even Macy's and places like that deliver for weddings. No one wants to carry a gift, its not pracitacal.
Laura, your broodies sounds like she has adopted the chicks. If she doesn't kill it right away she thinks its hers. Good luck on hatch 3!
We did not get rain or thunder, I am bummed. I love weather.
I have a turkey who's legs are straight behind him
Not sure if I can fix it, I can't find a turkey sized cup.

went down to check on everyone, also let the rest of the flock out for a stroll & to leave all the broodies/chicks in a bit of peace -- no babies peeking out from under mamas, but it's chilly this morning, so i'll look again in a little while. no sign of carnage in Broody #2's box, and she puffed up defensively, so i'm pretty sure she's happy with her 4 new chicks (will have to sneak the 3 fake eggs out at some point, but wanted to be sure she stays on the nest this first day!)
Broody #3 is sitting on Chiqita's eggs -- she actually gave me too many, so the 5 EE eggs got left behind, but hoping to hatch some combination of two black copper marans, three bresse, and four "icelandic surprise" eggs. chiqita, any guesses as to what the surprise part might be?
from my various experiences with these five broodies so far, i've decided that 8 might be the max number of eggs to give them -- the broody who sat on 13 eggs, even though some were quite small and she seemed to cover them, didn't manage to hatch any, although they candled ok -- guessing that they weren't getting warm enough when they were on the fringe of the nest, even though she moved them around a lot. another who started with 12 has broken at least three -- perhaps they were bad eggs, but i think they got broken when she was trying to maneuver around in the nest (esp. when other chicklets tried to barge in to lay their eggs) -- and Broody #5, who just started on 12 eggs last weekend, had shoved two out of her nest yesterday & then went & sat on a nesting box with only a couple of eggs in it, so i took 4 out, got her back on her own nest, & am hoping she does better with just 8. the one hatching today has 9, 4 of which are small, and so far she seems to have done pretty well.
