I am sorry. It is always tough. We lost our first chicken todayI think we've been pretty lucky so far, we have had chickens for over a year and a half. My little RIR got out of the coop and my big dog got it. So sad!! I don't know how she got out of the coop! I've inspected it and can't figure it out.![]()
I know exactly what you mean. Can't wait to have my own broodies! With SPR, PR, Dorkings Iclandics, and SS in the brooder/egg/near future I will probably have a whole coop full next spring. Then I will be making egg runs over one hill or another to pick up hatching eggs from you all.. It's another thing to love about this hobby, there seems to always be another level to which you can take itShe's so beautiful, and she looks like a good momma! ALL the pictures of hens with their chicks on here just bring out the best emotions in me.
You are so talented with the camera and she is so dang pretty. Thrilled that I will be getting SPRs later this spring!thank you both, so much -- i don't have an incubator, but have put all five remaining eggs under Frances, who tucked them right under her along with the four araucana peepers -- only hope i wasn't too late!
edit: adding a picture of Frances with one of her foster babies -- such a good girl! i am sprinkling some chick crumbles in her nest, so she won't have to get up...
