Anyone else hatching a lot of boys?

My last 2 hatches are insanely boy heavy. 1st I hatched 11 and 9 are cockerels. Then I hatched 19 and 13 are boys. I guess my odds are improving.

Maybe this next hatch of 10 under my broody will have more pullets.

capayvalley chick is breeding her hens separately to find the best combination of parents. One thing she has already learned is that one of her hens has 0 fertile eggs. A program like this could be used to find out which of the pullets is throwing the cockerels. I will be hatching in containers and banding the chicks by pullet that laid the eggs. It will interesting to see if there are some that lay mostly cockerel or pullet eggs.

Yep, me too...most of mine are taken with my android or my Sony point and shoot camera. But it doesn't seem to be enough to stop me from sharing my baby pictures either

I sure as heck hope not! I have my 6 hatchlings 1 I know is a boy 1 I know is a girl the other 4 I am hoping are all girls but we all know the odds of that are not in my favor. I think my Polish/Dorking is the cutest so hoping hoping hoping she is a she.

I'm doing reasonalby well this year. Mind you, I have been hatching a LOT of Marans and silkies, and you dont know thoes for forever, so I could be lying my teeth off, lol.

I was very happy with the ratio of boys to girls with the younger chicks that we got from you in Feb! My friend took 8 of the chicks and she ended up with 3 boys and 5 girls. The 12 chicks that we kept ended up being 4 boys and 8 girls. Of course, 2 of those were CL so were sexed as pullets. I'm happy when the ratio of boys to girls is under 50%!

wow that is GREAT on the marans!!! in my experiance Marans run more twards roosters as a breed. I have hatched local eggs, my own eggs, and shipped eggs, gotten 100% hatches, and seen a lot of boys. I bet its those hens that came from rons house!

That is really a cool study! If you continue you over time you will have a real idea of the trends.

I do have a couple hens that I know tend to throw more pullets. But I'm hatching from this one female as she's from another line and I'm working on making improvements to my line. So I'll have to endure all the boys. Hopefully her daughters will throw more pullets!
