Yay! MY chicken nipples came on Monday.....and my awesome built me a chicken waterer! Over the weekend he built a bucket feeder!
We are fully set up now!

On Tuesday he put a nippke in his pocket (to get a drill bit after work), then went to work (he is back to work!!!!!!!yay). He said all day he was asking everyone "have you ever seen a chicken nipple?"

Said he got some pretty strange looks.

Still looking for a home for our 16 (?) week old hatchery BO......needs a gentle flock who is not going to pick on her..........

:gig  mine would have to start laying golden eggs for awhile

You have long term chickens.

But... Has anyone read the 64 dollar tomato?
We are those people!! Lol
I think buckeyes are grand but have had bad luck with shipped eggs.

More quail died last night. I am giving them corid and put heat on both sides of the pen but I don't think either one of those things are it. Quail from week before are fine. Same feed ( glad I didn't give them fermented feed or I would think botulism)

Holy crap!! While typing everything that was the same I figured what was different.... My sand!

I got new sand plays and and it was dusty. They were on paper towels over it but it was dusty in that room.

Switched everyone into different containers put the HEPA filter on in there and opened the windows to switch the air. I hope that is it! One of the bad thins about solid walls and chicks.

If it was it I bet I loose a few more today but hopefully that is it.

Naw, he's a retired school teacher. You haven't looked close, LOL. I did a basic design on the original, then just turned him loose. Anytime something came out not completely right, our mantra was....................."it's only a chicken house".

OOOOOHHHH....you're supposed to recover your investment!!!!!

I don't understand what that means. Could you explain it?

Since Mariah has to keep 4-H records I can't fudge on the costs/income. So far we are breaking even on feed with the egg sales. Building coops, that's a whole new ballgame-but the coops will be here for years and if, (haha), the chickens go, there will be plenty of usable outbuildings and covered storage areas.

You are such a sweetpea. Cj had to get rid of everything she lost her court battle and the neighbor went batty. I think I was her last shipment she was crying like a baby.
That is heartbreaking. Please tell her I'm praying for her!

I think UB has a marans dad. I have a baby that is a flame marans chick.he can sneak around and hold on with the best of them!

Meg you are in my chicken hero list too!!
Wow thank you!! (not sure why but it's so sweet of you!!)

Very cool. They are striking! Not sure how well they lay or how much feed they go through... But I somehow managed to secure a promise of two breeding pens built this summer in addition to my existing layers coop! YES!!!!!
That's so cool about the pens!! So exciting!!
They lay like champs!! I have 4 and I get 9 eggs every 2 days. I can always count on my PP's to be laying even when my Basques stop for some reason or another. I'm not sure exactly how much they eat but they eat the same amount as Basques if that helps. (hehe sorry!)

All kidding aside. There is a wide range of chicken keepers here with a wide range of goals for their flock. BYC offers the diversity of people to interact and learn from each other. What an opportunity for someone who has a small flock of feed store chicks, who can have a rooster, to learn from all the info here and somehow apply it to their "podunk" flock. Maybe be inspired to get involved in a rare breed or maybe just have some chicks for the kids to enjoy.

How lucky are we all to have this forum?

We are all so lucky! I started out wanting 3-4 hens and I chose Barnevelders. After those all died in the first couple of days (worst first chicken experience!) Ron gave us some Basques that he had hatched from Skyline eggs. We were really interested in Basques because Johnny, like them, are from Spain. Now we have a couple of rare breeds that we love and are waiting on that golden egg to pay for it all! haha!! BYC and all of you guys have taught me so much and I am thankful for you guys!!

I hope they do too!
x2! That's a super cute animation!

I hope that was it! Keep us updated! (Don't you love those ah-ha! moments?)

Ahhh, I forgot about those income/expense sheets in 4H (my son is now 32). I remember when I had the $5,000 barn built for his rabbits. Kind of through off his profits, LOL
