Your chicks do not need Corid. Corid is for cocci. They will not get cocci in two days. Most do not get cocci until they have been exposed to something from the outside, and it probably takes 6 days for them to build up to a harmful level. Corid blocks the absorption of nutrients - which slows down the growth of cocci. It also can cause curled toes and other defects in the chick. I would not dose with Corid unless they show severe signs.

You might want to add electrolites (save-a-chick) to the water to help perk them up. The home-made remedy is sugar water.

You can also add Apple Cider Vinegar to the water to toughen their intestines up (acid) which will help them fight off cocci later. I believe its 1 tsp per qt of water.
mine are a week old and get both already. The last time this happened it worked well for me. Then again though mine are about 7 to 8 days

I can't take eggs till later in June.. Thanks though meg20000. What's your opinion on pita pinta Roos? I'm not familiar other than they're beautiful. I like that not EVERYONE has them . So much more fun that way.

Deb I'm interested in one of your cl boys. Do you have a gentle crower?lol I would put him with the layer coop until I had a cl flock for
Him. My favorite past project is a blue egg roo over the hatchery hens for fun colors in the basket. From what I hear cl lay better and bigger than the EE or hatchery?

Oh ok thanks

Anyone know why I have a light and a dark croad langshan? Are there variations?
Cute chicks! There are black, blue, splash, and white Langshans. I am a total addict and have all 4 colors!

Yogurt is a good idea, I don't have any of the drops though. I'll give yogurt and see what they do, probably roll in it and make a mess haha

They do! Haha They usually walk in it but I don't mind it because the others will peck it off their feet and eat it. Another way to get them to eat it is to dip your finger in the yogurt and put it on the tip of their beaks. Careful not to get it in their nostrils!

yes my lethargic chicks were 3 weeks at the time -- sorry, should have been more clear.  the whole flock gets ACV in their water, all the time, and they get yogurt now and then as a treat.

That was for chickengirl. I knew your birds were closer in she to mine ;-)

My opinion about the Pita Pinta Roos? Obsessed! Although I've only had two full grown ones they are so sweet. One was eaten by a coyote a few months ago. I was so bummed! I love going in their pen because I'm never scared! Haha Also, I let the kids I watch collect the pp eggs because they are all so gentle the kids are totally safe. All of the kids including the 4 year old pick up Pedro, our roo, and walk around with him. The cockerels that are 5 weeks are showing the same signs of being gentle and super friendly.

That is odd about the 4 week old.. usually by then they are fast enough to get away from the attacker. I would keep an eye on Elanor. Her un-relenting attacks on Speedy sounds like she may be more aggressive. Watch her around her chicks. Some mommies chase the chicks off when they get older, I think 4 weeks was about the age my mother's broody chased off all her chicks. The chicks didn't want to be chased off and kept coming back. She only pecked them once to send them running, but Elanor may have been responsible for the demise of all of Speedy's other chicks.. so she might not be as nice if she wants something to go away...

The one left behind by Daisy may have had something else wrong - usually the mommy will come back to get them if they are standing there peeping loudly enough. My Silkie mommy still can't go up into the coop to sleep because her 4 haven't figured it out the ramp yet and they stand at the bottom yelling.
My mama hen cut her 3 chicks loose this week and they were 2 days shy of 4 weeks. She was finished with her last group at 4 1/2 weeks. I was so hoping that she would mother them a while longer. They don't even have all their feathers and I worry about hawks swooping down on them. I've thought about putting them in a brooder but they are already integrated into the flock. The only thing that they have left to learn is how to go into the coop at night. They keep going to the dog kennel and peeping for mama. I have been putting them into a nest box every night so they will be warm.

My first Bresse chick hatched today on day 20! It is the first chick hatched from my roo Chauvelin and his two ladies! He/she is peeping almost non-stop! I hope that it encourages the others to hatch!

I have from a few weeks old, all the way up to a spare adult roo. The blue of their eggs is just beautiful, very intense and true blue. I prefer it to my araucana even. And their eggs are HUGE! My girls are on strike at the moment, haven't gotten an egg from that pen in nearly a week, but they had been laying well.

Fair warning on cream legbar roosters. They have a penetrating crow. Much more then any other type I have.

You can hear Orlando a mile away.

Can't say I've noticed that, but then I probably have around 75-100 crowing roos, so maybe it just blends in.

And you can't hear anything over the turkeys.

Orlando beats the turkeys at my house. But he is a sweet thing.
