Yes, you should get a mister. I have two that hook up to a garden hose and a timer. They are set to turn on at two and run for 3 hours. If they are still hot when I get home, then I run it longer.

Give them electrolytes a couple times a week during the heat.

Ok, like the snake looking kind or the pvc fancy kind? Thinking about getting the snake kind.

That is great news!

The Crele Penes are Ultra heat hardy but I do not know about the Blue Egg Layers. The Pullets seem fine here. The water on Friday and Saturday would be a good idea.

I am very pleased with the Blue Egg Layers--I want to move to them to get a breed that is more heat hardy than the Marans. So far so good!

I may be taking an RIR in for necropsy though...They may not be used to the heat here. One of them is fine so Heat culling I guess.
my u of a's did not show any heat signs last weekend. though it only got to 87
Just out of curiosity, why did you give up on the fermenting? I am getting ready to start it because these guys are eating a pile of the Scratch and Peck Starter which seems to be the only thing I can get here. I guess that is okay but it can be pricey. It is non GMO and Organic apparently and they seem to like it fine. No one close by has the King non GMO in stock and I have never seen the Big Ole Bird feed anywhere.

Those are cute and mean more because they were your grandma's.

Freeze the whole melon! Cut them in half first though.

You know, depending on which weather website I look at it can be anywhere from 107 to 111 here in Roseville. Are you kidding me? I don't live in the desert because I HATE the heat! This is the weekend I am hopefully moving my chicks outside! I am going to have to get the misters up right away. The garage isn't any cooler than outside and it has more air flow outside so even though it is going to be hot, I think that has to be the better choice if I can get the rest done.

Lol I am sitting at my desk with the AC blaring and I am freezing at the moment, but knowing hell is coming, I am not complaining AT ALL.
I am gonna put my head in the freezer I think this weekend
I think I'm going to have to put my 15 week old Cornish X girls in the house for Friday and Saturday. I'm either going to have to make XXL chicken diapers, or put them in a big dog crate. They are so big, and I don't want them to die of heat stroke.

I use misters for mine. I have already put them up and used them in the bantam pen because it gets more sun. I also have a fan going (never right on your birds) in the chicken house to help blow out the hot air that gets trapped in there. I am dreading this weekend when the temps are supposed to be 101 degrees!! I really worry about my chickens!!! It is especially bad when they have to be locked in at night

I will probably devise a screen door (my coop is in a pen with hot wire) to help give them more air flow. They ate the screen on the previous one (dang chickens!) so I have to build another with chicken wire this time!

Oh, and the pictures you sent of the two EEs you got from me are marvelous as usual!! Neat that Ellie is getting a black beard like her sisters and Emmet is one gorgeous rooster!!! I am so glad you might be keeping him. I will have to post some pictures of their EE brother that I am keeping. He is such a light blue that he looks lavender with some dark red lacing coming in.

I hope they're okay in our coop at night. We've got that huge square window that opens completely in the front, plus two side vents, a back vent and theirs a three inch gap in the front and back where the roof meets the walls. It's been kinda breezy, but maybe that's just coming off the little lake we live near.

Thanks! Yeah, Emmet and his Olive Egger bro so far get along just fine, praying it stays that way! One of the other OE's sprouted a comb last minute and decided to be a roo. So we will probably be looking for a nice home for him and then we will keep Speckles and Emmet. Right now we are 3 roos to 7 hens. :S

I'd LOVE to see pics of him! Sounds absolutely gorgeous!

Sounds like you have good ventilation in your coop. You will know if they are too hot at night because you will see them panting.

I use the soft line misters. Be sure to hang them high enough that they don't soak the ground. The chickens learn pretty quick to go stand near or under them to cool off.

My EE rooster chick is very shy and doesn't want to pose for pictures, but I will try. He might not look like much right now to most people, but I know how these guy's feather in with some gorgeous colors!

I am very excited!

My friend Cyndi (Zoichick) has an order of Wyandotte chicks due to arrive tomorrow from a great breeder (PeakyBeaky here on BYC) which will consist of Silver Laced and BLRWs for her and a gift of a Partridge Wyandotte chick for ME! I have wanted a Partridge Wyandotte for a long time! Thanks Cyndi!!
