Yah, right!

I've been hatching Bresse and I'm tired of plain colored chicks that I can hardly tell apart. I must bring home more Langshan eggs from the farm or find some different eggs to hatch!

Edited to say, I'm not really tired of the cute little fuzz balls but I would like a variety pack to add to the group!

I will be hatching out chicks for friends for well forever. I love hatching but do not have the room here in the city.

I did get a notice of more eggs arriving on Friday--EO Marraduna Basque!

I guess I shouldn't tell you about the REALLY odd stuff I have.....................Tomaru Longcrowers, Auburn Sumatras, Black Bresse, Crele Orpintons..................ummm, I'd have to think about what else is out there, LOL
Well then... How did your od hatch go ? AND your golden seabright chickes are sexable now? AND I could go on and on but my brooder a will overflow and we only have a one car garage;-)

And now I've moved them out of a breeding pen, I needed the space. They did lay one last egg that went into the incubator, but until they get space of their own again, any eggs would be OD/SL polish crosses

I don't have sebrights, did you mean campines? They are about ten days old and I can make a pretty good guess. They appear to be 9 boys and 18 girls!

Deb, if you ever find yourself with spare silver campines, you just let me know...

Well.. no Longcrowers for me - I have enough noise and I don't need it to go on for hours. Besides, they just crack me up! However, Auburn Sumatras sound really pretty, and I love the temperament and QUIET of the Sumatras. If you ever have any spares... let me know please?
Will do, I'm still growing out youngsters, so I'm not near eggs even.

I am sorry yours were taken by hawks. The being able to fly well is a double edged sword isn't it? Keeps them safer from ground predators but opens up a new can of worms with the aerial ones.

I am going to let mine out to forage this pm for the first time so am a little nervous about it but I figure they will pretty much stay with the flock and at the same time I am inclined to let them be who they are and let the chips fall. They are both feathering in like this so I figure their coloring is good camo.

Cute 4-H story. The little girls who cried or had the most trouble holding on to their lambs seemed to always rake in the big bucks when I was a 4-Her.
Nothing is off topic here Kim. That's a darling picture and he looks so placid and content.

Anyone have experience with Russian Orloffs or Javas?
yes I agree. you can clip 1 wing though which may help
good morning Northern California . just one quick question off topic when is a good age to stop feeding chick starter to your chicks. age or size what am I looking for
I just use all flock from the get go
Glad your dog showed up! She was gone for quite a while.

In fertile eggs, the white spot will look like a round bullseye. Yours look fertile.
glad the pup came back too
Im shutting off the bator for the summer so I can spend more time with my kids and less time worrying about the babies. My last hatch will be on 6/29. It is going to be weird not having little peepers around.
I am going to do at least 3 more

I use fermented feed, too. There is less waste - my feed bill has dropped by a third or more. Also, they have firmer poos which makes the coop & yard easier to clean.
I just use water, but people often use apple cider vinegar to get it started. Be sure to use the vinegar with the "mother" in it.
Once you get it started, just keep adding feed after you take some out. It's a bit like keeping sourdough starter.

ETA: Here's a thread on fermented feed. It's a good resource: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/644300/fermenting-feed-for-meat-birds
