I watched my first chick hatch today, it was so cool! So far I have 2 BCM's, an Ameracauna is pipped and another BCM is rocking, may be pipped by now.

What a dork I am. I read that as 4 - 1/2 cups of sugar. I thought what an odd measurement!!!! So 4 1/2 cups sugar is the reduced sugar version???? Wow!


Anyone grow the red rhubarb????

I've got a old apricot/pineapple recipe here that calls for 9 cups of sugar! Most jams are 5 cups of fruit and 7 cups of sugar. USDA defines a jam or jelly as 65% sugar. I label the reduced sugars as spreads.

Sorry, I took the rhubarb out after losing a pullet that got under the covering and ate the leaves.

I have a great recipe for apricot pineapple jam. It's sinfully delicious! I'll post it tomorrow.

It was one of my dads favorites and I have his recipe for Strawberry Rhubarb jam. It is pretty darn tasty. I see it in the store and think of him always.

I'm seeing warnings about Spanish breeds.
I was hoping to be able to move the EO's in with some of my layers until they grew out. I'll need to build another breeder pen anyway but had hoped to be able to wait awhile before digging more trenches. Am I doomed to the shovel and polaski in the heat?

I pit them and freeze them in zip lock bags--Then when I need to make Jam they are portioned out. I have 4 bags in the freezer for this year.

I needed this info last week, BEFORE the birds stripped my trees. I managed to pick a couple buckets and made apricot cheesecake bars.

if you have younger spanish you should be ok.
I have younger black being picked on by some older easter eggers. well they where they have turned the tide some now that they are the same age.

I have not noticed any difference . my icelandic flock was much worse behaved towards new chickens. curly my icelandic rooster I had nearly killed Rocky my crele penedesenca.
