California - Northern

Ungh hate hot weather. Its going to be about that temperature here too. The humidity is killing me though.
Last week I was in St. Louis. Now that is HUMID. Green, too, which is nice until you get outside and get moving. I am resolved to appreciate our heat. (Check in with me next week; I may not still sing the same song). My best friend lives accross the Mississipi in Columbia, IL. She loves her community but hates the humid summers. Not easy to put a positive spin on 95+ with humidity that makes it feel much hotter. The forecast here is why DH and I are spending our July anniversary over on the coast, paying a premium to be at the ocean for a few precious days!

We are now quail people also! We went and picked up 4 girls and a boy this afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised with the "crow". They are two weeks old and very cute. It's going to take awhile to get used to how they lay with their legs stretched out behind them, just doesn't look right. All we could find locally were brown cots, but we like them so far.

They sound like a lot of fun too.

2 weeks?? You mean 2 months? Pharoahs are great because you can sex them faster then others.

I'm on my phone so I can't quote but I'm not sure what tore the door off the coop. It 1/2 killed 2 grow outs I had to finish and defeathered nixie ( who was fine thank god) before I got down to the coop.

I threw something out the window and it ran away. The coop being right out of my bedroom has saved a few birds......

But I have to run all the way out of the u shaped house to get to it.

Usually, depending on the breed, Yes they do.

Do you have a picture?

I didn't have my phone today so I didn't get a picture and today is the first day I noticed them.
I will try tomorrow.

I got 2 cockrels out of 3 bantam Cochin chicks.  The first feathered out rather quickly and he was pushy - bossing around the other 2 banties and my CL and NJ pullets.  I placed a CL ad but had zero responses.  He was tiny and not soup material.  I opted to place him at Bradshaw Feed as they had an open cage and do sell them (you get nothing from the sale).  My second little roo feathered in slowly.  He is a Frizzle.  As was bound to happen, he began practing his crow earlier this week, at the 10 week point.  Again I placed a CL ad and so far received 2 totallly sketchy odd ball responses :-(.  For good measure, I placed an add here on BYC for local pick up.  I understand the bonding - I would drive anywhere in No Cal (almost) to give him a life as he is a good soul.  I try to keep focused on my 3 pullets as they are my keepers.  Here in the middle of the city, I knew going in that getting "rid" of my roos wouldn't be easy.  I am totally relieved that I reached my 3  hen quota (thanks, Molly!),  Your  Wheaten  is a beauty and looks far more girly than my little Frizzle!  Best of luck to you.

Well I have shamelessly listed mine under the "free stuff" section and have gotten several responses same day. I have rehomed 7 and have at least 5 more. Probably more like 7 more. So far everyone says they are keeping them but .....I am a bit of a realist. So probably not.

Anyway this guy is a little fem but his coloring is absolutely different than the Wheaten hens. I got two hens and two roos out of the hatch.

Now that I rehomed my Basque Roo yesterday one of these guys is going a little power mad and trying to keep everyone away from the food.

Interesting. I've not been able to accurately sex them that young.
You will love them.
They look like happy little things!
The male was hiding in the back, just out of reach, she showed us the red feathers growing in on his chest. That's how she sexed them anyway, we will see in a few weeks. The one in the pictures fell asleep while we were holding her-I guess we have warm hands.

That is so scary! What was the door construction like? I'm picturing something like a big-foot tearing off my coop door... speaking of which, something keeps trying to dig into my coop at night and its a good thing I have mesh all along the bottom. We have a motion activated camera that I need to set up to figure out who is doing this. grrrr....
