California - Northern

It is 8:38 and Accuweather says it is 77 outside. the weather app on my desktop says it will be 106 today.

I put up a better mister for the Bresse.

Hoping for the best in the heat with the chickens!

I froze a bunch of eggs last year in times of bounty. Didn't use them all over winter
So I'm dispensing them today. Nort as hot as inland but upper 90's

i've got no A/C in my house (and only one fan!), so am up early this morning with all the doors and windows open, trying to air things out as much as possible, before sealing it up again when the temps start climbing outside -- but i can't complain, i don't think it's getting as hot here as inland, "only" into the 90s...

Old wives trick - open the doors and windows at night when it starts cooling off (make sure you have screens) and turn the fans on to bring the cooler air into the house. In the morning when you wake up close everything down.

I guess I was lucky - it got down to 67 here last night - so its 74 in the house right now. No AC in my house either - but I bought a bunch of fans for moving air into the house at night. The only time it doesn't work is when it doesn't cool off at night - yuck! I guess I better setup the window AC unit I have - I hate using it.. but...

It never really cooled off here. It was the same temp inside 78 as it was outside. I had fans going trying to pull in cool air but it didn't make any difference.

I need to think of different options for the chickens. I used frozen watermelon and misters and ice in their water yesterday; I don't have any extra bricks to soak. What else? I know we talked about this during the last heat wave and I thought I remembered something else...... I don't have any empty soda bottles to freeze either......

I usually do that but it's been staying so hot at night it doesn't cool the house off at all. Hope it gets cooler at night soon.

Take a hose and squirt down the ground in the shade. They will lay there. Mine love to hang out under the apple tree. I wet the ground and they are quite happy.

I haven't lost a bird yet to heat, but I do have some 4 1/2 year old hens - I'm sure the heat will be tough on them.
