There is a fire on HWY 50 near Eldarado--50 is closed and 49,000 people do not have electricity!

How is everyone doing?

It was stinking hot!

The fire was about 2 miles from my house and the fire planes were flying over for ages. The air was a bit smoky, but not bad. The power was out here for a few hours as well. Of course I have LOTS of eggs in the incubator for the hatchery at State Fair. I've been setting 7 eggs for them per day.

I also locked eggs down about 30 minutes before the power went out, so we had to start the generator to get everything plugged in, including the lamp over the 17 ducklings that hatched yesterday. There was one serama egg pipped. I hope it's dark colored, I'm going to name it Blackout!

I fixed dinner on the stovetop with a campfire starter to start the flame (tacos

), we were contemplating how far we'd have to drive down the hill to refill the 5 gallons of gas in case we needed the generator longer term.

And then BLINK the power came on. TG for the A/C back on

Wow that's crazy! The fire was so close to you, and no power or AC!!

we had no power till after 7. I had to get on the roof and fix the swamp cooler. at least power is on and the cooler works.
The R-com was off for 3 or 4 hours once the power came back it was still at 99.5 with 44% humidity

it is nice to have somewhat cool air. our house was at 91 when I got home. got to 93 yesterday in here. I feel sorry for the older folks without ac or swamp coolers.

This afternoon the girls are holding up far better than moi - below they are being entertained watching our dogs pant. Here's Tilly contemplating a bug crawling overhead. e Hot, hot, hot, snivel, snivel, sniff. :barnie Just looking at the forecast makes me faint. The cooling 90s in the forecast can't arrive soon enough. I need to get out and shop for a whole new tropic wardrobe (store dressing rooms are so wonderfully cool!)
Oh Gosh, they are beautiful. I can't believe how big they have gotten...

Good to hear power is back.
I was just thinking it was almost warm enough to just open up incubators. A little better than losing power when it's freezing outside.

Believe me, I thought about it. The "styrobators" could have been easily carried outside, it was 100 degrees plus. The ducklings would have been fine, but the BIG cabinet full of eggs can't be moved and believe me, I was hoping the power would be back on before the house reached 99-100 degrees. Yikes!

even 91-93 in a house feels worse than 105 outside

My cabinet is on wheels!!
It also does not have a perfect seal so it leaks some heat. I've been thinking about Wheeling it outside....
