I think I'm melting. At least I don't have to
Work the rest of the week. I'm going to
Stay inside all weekend! I lost one of my Cornish-x girls yesterday. :(.

And yes deb, that cat will keep them in that order too.

My cats were hot last night. They kept waking e up so I would make it better. Whiney was shocked and appalled about my general desire to not serve him.

Quail questions.

Are they really so difficult to care for ( aside from flying )

What is the preferred breed. (I realize that's a personal preference but would like to know real opinions.

So they taste much different from chicken eggs?

And finally what is a fair price ?

So they taste much different from chicken eggs? They taste the same as chicken eggs, but creamier and richer. The proportion of yolk to white is higher, kind of like duck eggs.

And finally what is a fair price ? I sell new hatches for $1, mature coturnix for $5.

I only know coturnix. I have tried buttons but I'm a miserable button failure.

Once you have them intergraited in a pen as long as they are happy and have enough space they are easy as pie to care for. Getting the first pen inter grated can be a challenge. It has not been for me but I have heard of issues. They do fight on occation but the only quail I had that hurt other quail seriously was dear departed bubbah. She had a temper and it did not do to cross her fat self.

There are some tricks you can use putting in the pen the first time. They pay no attention to their eggs and will not brood so you are on your own for babies. The babies chill fast so I keep them high for 2 weeks then don't worry much.

Other then that it is just food water sand and cleaning under the cage. The eggs are a bit richer but not like a duck egg that's a different feel. I like quail eggs myself but they are a challange to poach!

I sell mine babies 6 for 20 and sexed sets of 4 or 5 for 30-40. You can get the babies at 3 each if you are further out. Fancy colors and impressive jumbos are more.

It is easier to settle them in a new home before they are sexually mature and territorial. If I was picking them up at the ideal time it would be about 6 weeks. But it is not that big a deal.

My layer flock is a disaster ! I have 6 hens at the point of lay- two are crowing/ maybe one more! I have 11 8 weekers and one ee is crowing In The garage and several well summers are looking suspicious ! I'm not set up to process and dh won't ..... And the Australorp is crowing ALL day . I bought sexes pullets in a stagger to keep the brooders from getting over crowded. But now I have roosters
Of all ages... What a backfire! If I were hatching these guys at least there would be a harvest of Roos and excess hens to take to the butcher at once! What to do!!!!!
Ok. Vent is over.
