OK fine people, help me out. If I want a hatch to start on the 14th of August I would set eggs on the 24th?

I'm going to order some MB from Megan to try and hatch under a broody at cointy fair. She is not great at raising chicks but she is very commited to sitting on them. She puts on a great attack act also when I mess with her.

It has been a busy week at work, and this thread moves so fast!

I'm in Sunnyvale West, and have six bantams, who I hope are all girls... they will be 11 weeks and 15 weeks on Monday, but these pictures were taken about a week ago.

Rosie and Elanor, buff brahma bantams:

Violet, black frizzle cochin bantam:

Edith and Mary, easter egger bantams:

Sybil, easter egger bantam:

Beautiful Girls! I love the blue beard on your EE!

I have a Rose/Rosie too she is an EE who also has a blue beard :)

That's 21 days and it sounds right to me but what do I know? When I used an incubator my hatch date was the 27th and the first two hatched the 26th and the last on the 28th but I did get some on the actual date.

With these broody babies it was 21 days almost to the minute when the last little one popped out of its egg.

I have heard that you should set them in the morning to be sure you get the timing right if you set them in the afternoon they may be a day later.

Marraduna Basque from Megan hatch fairly close to 21 days.

Start on the 15th:

Robert Bosl asked about Campines on the Heritage Large Fowl threat. Someone is looking for them. I have seen a picture or two of Deb's Campines and they look good to me.

Deb, can you post a picture of yours so they can see what they look like? Robert posted a long post there about them and acquiring rare breeds.

How I see my SL Polish:

How my SL Polish sees me:

He once had a strawberry and was running with it, couldn't see where he was going...ran right into a wooden barrel.
I guess I'm the only one that can't see the 2nd picture.

Thanks! So far she has proven herself. I really am mostly guessing but it looks like I have 2 boys and 2 girls based on their wing feathers but I don't know how accurate that is for EEs. A question, I know that EEs sometimes lay a brown egg but one of these babies came out of a white egg one came out of a brown and two came out of very pale green. They told me they were Ameraucana/Aracauna which I figured wasn't true but could the white one be something totally different or do the sometimes lay white? I guess it would depend on the cross wouldn't it.

The only drawback I see at this point to using a broody is that I don't know who came out of what egg though I think the smallest red one came out of the white egg. It also has pink legs and no puffy cheeks. I am looking forward to seeing what they turn out to look like.
EE's are mixes, so they can lay any color egg. They are definitely not Ameraucanas or Aracaunas.

That was the joke! The Polish cannot see her because of the feathers blocking the chicken's eyes...

Its 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They said its going to be in front of one of their warehouses - so bring some shade and something cool to drink. I am, for both myself and those chicks.

If anyone else would like to join us, it is being held at Douglas Feed and Pet Supply, 5460 Douglas Blvd. Granite Bay 95746. Its free - plenty of parking - the phone number for the store is (916) 791-3202.

Oh.. and Jason.. if you want to, bring the killerbator and I can give it a brain transplant in the parking lot.
I gave it away. the R-com is much easier to clean and I am low on storage. Plus I did not want to chance hatching in it.
I got a Empordanesa nad 2 crele penedesenca eggs yesterday if anyone wants them
How did the chickens do in the heat today?

This looks like a mini heat wave so I hope all will be ok this time.
Mine did well though it was very warm here yesterday the nights have been cool like they are in September

Deb has some nice Campines for sure

Yes! Someone posted that the only place to get Campines was SandHill and they were not good. I am sure that Deb has been culling them to standard for a while so they are much better than when she got them.

yeah she wins ribbons with them. I am sure she will chime in after the Fair today though.

I am thinking of Rehoming Rocky my Crele Rooster as I have a nice one coming up. I have this other line of crele in my bator plus some Deb has for me that Mary may take but may not.
I will soon be on Chicken Overload for my 3 runs
I was hoping to fence the bottom part of the property and let him and few hens range but have not got around to it. I already need 2 more runs as it is for the other crele line and the olive egger project. Oh boy

Tonight I put my U of A's , Empordanesa Hens and the lone buff x wheaten easter egger in with the Empordanesa . Whitey will be a happy Guy I am switching the coops in that run too.

I have a extra silver ameraucana rooster teen. Plus I will surely have more as I have 6 chicks that are 8 days old.
