Hi ya'll,
I live in pilot hill near cool. I was wondering about the chicken/farm animal swap in Roseville. How do I find out about these things? I would love to get some more chickens since I have lost 10 in the last couple of months to predators. Thankfully, we had a trapper come and captured a bobcat, skunk, and hawk that were taking my girls. Anyway, long story short: I would live to get a blue copper Maran or two and a laced wydonette. If any one in the foothills wants to get rid of some chickens.

Hi and Welcome!

Roseville has an Auction. It is no the First and Third Sundays each month. It is on church St. by Denios. The Auction Starts at 9.

The Small Animal Exchange is in Oranagevale and is held monthly until October. The Animal Exchange has a Facebook page with details.

Quote: I have no idea what the bird would look like. Of course that would be a green shell over a blue shell. My araucana I'm using is a blue splash with a bit of residual tail, the roo is a BCM. I have produced about six OE so far. About half have been black and the other half blue. Most of them have had feathered legs. The oldest should be within a month or so of laying. I'm anxious!

speaking of which: is there a simple way of describing what difference it makes to have a roo of breed X and a hen of breed Y, vs. the other way around? or is there a genetics webpage i could look at? i'm trying to start to get my head around chicken breeding, and it seems mighty complex...

for instance, i'm hoping to end up with both roos and hens of both isbars and marans. would an isbar roo & marans hen produce the same chick as a marans roo and isbar hen -- or does it depend on the breed/coloring?

(also, one hen is hinting that she might be thinking about becoming broody -- and i'm trying to decide if any of my flock's eggs (all sired by a SFH roo but with hens that are australorp, basque, SPPR, cuckoo marans, CL, and amelias) are worth trying to hatch! hence trying to understand how the various characteristics of the breeds might cross)

Hi!! Welcome. I'm sure someone in this group has what you are looking for, and maybe a little extra.. What age chickens are you looking for? I have some BLRW and some Silver Laced but they are still little. I also have some Black Copper Marans in the "bator, but they still have a ways to go.

Hello and Welcome to the Nor Cal thread!

I sold my excess large fowl last month, all I have left are 4 bantam girls.

I was at the exchange yesterday (it was in Granite Bay) and one lady there did have adult hens, but they were RIR. Another person was talking about Marans.. so maybe she has some.

How did you get the Hawk trapped? I thought that it was illegal to remove Hawks...

I love my Blue Copper girl - her eggs are amazing. I only have the one.. but I got her from Papa Brooder - he might have more.

The hawk got caught in the trap with live bait. We released it but far away from our property.
I would like to cross my Ameracauna with the copper Maran and get some OE. I have a beautiful lavender Americauna I want we'd to cross with a blue copper Maran. And I would love a Maran pullet for the eggs.
