Purslane USED to grow in my yard. Now the flock just stares through the fence at it growing on the property behind mine.

The occasional chicken figures out how to get over there and manja down on all it can eat.

I sowed sees form my lawn too late--A big patch of Purslane popped up along with the lawn seeds. I have been hand weeding it and feeding it to the chickens. I might pick a place to grow some for them, but each plant has 200,000 seeds--I might be fighting them for years!

It is beautiful outside this morning. I spent a while playing in the garden.

The view from the chicken yard

Does any one know what this is? It randomly showed up in the garden, so I don't know if it's a plant, or a weed.

This one too. I have a bunch of these and they grow white flowers at the top. Don't know what they are.

Picked these this morning. Looks like i'll have to start canning tomatoes soon.

Ok, so I got some better pictures. When it started growing I thought it might be a pepper plant, or a tomatillo so I let it grow, I really hope it isn't poisonous, because I threw some of the plant to the chickens this morning.

This is a big as the berries get.

This is the stem of the plant. It split from the main stem, so it's growing along the ground.
at least the plant is young which is better. it looks like Hairy Night shade. if not it is a night shade of some sort. best to get rid of as it can harbor pest and disease which you dont want near your tomatoes

I've got some plants too. No idea what it is. I didn't give it to the chickens cause idno it could be poisonous.
that is another variety I am pretty sure. generally the leaves are green and it gets a red stalk. Grows alot up here in the hills in disturbed areas and can get 7 ft tall. can not remember which variety

Jason to the rescue!!

I was waiting impatiently for the professional opinion. :D

And the reason I don't wanna start the quail is because I want to enjoy the process this time. Not be in a rush to just get it done because moving really sucks.

i make it ALL THE TIME, pretty much any time i have homemade chicken stock -- it's one of my favorite foods.  very easy to make, & good hot or cold...

So okay where is the recipe?? Drooling over here! I used to get it at a greek place in Suisun down by the water. But I moved 2 years ago so no more soup for me!

oh, sorry! i don't follow an exact recipe, but i use about 2 quarts of stock (roughly), and i use orzo instead of rice as it cooks faster and i like the texture better. so, 2 quarts stock, 1 cup of orzo, a clove or two of garlic, cook for 10 min -- while that's cooking, mix 3 egg yolks (or four if they're small) with roughly a 1/4 cup (i usually use a little more) of lemon juice, i've also just recently started adding some lemon zest too (not sure why it took me so long to think of that) -- when the orzo is al dente, turn off the heat, then add a small bit of the stock to the egg/lemon mixture to gradually warm it up (i usually add about 3/4 cup in 3 increments), then pour the lemon/egg/stock mixture into the pot and stir. it should look nice and creamy. add leftover chicken, S&P to taste, and then anything else you might want in your soup (vegetables or whatever, i like to keep it simple with just orzo & chicken)

crazily delicious -- and after i've saved the egg whites from making 4 pots of soup, i make angel food cake!
