Does anybody have just hatched chicks available near Placerville. I have a broody EE that won't give up and I was unsuccessful with placing eggs under her and trying to break her of her broodyness... I need to get her out of the laying box. Thanks!

Sorry, I find the genetics of Chickens fascinating. Perhaps if you see the word "Genetics" anywhere in the post you can just skip it?
Lol I find it fascinating too, however, it just hurts my brain. I think if I had a diagram I would better understand it. I am a visual learner and when I start reading about BBS, Or EE Or OMG and all those crosses I start to glaze over. My first impulse is to reread it slower, but that doesn't even help!![]()

One of my gold laced brahmas is broody and doesn't even have any dang eggs under her!! And none of the others will lay even though there are 2 boxes. I'm starting to get very irritated with her![]()
excellent little chart! and i'm much clearer now on the relationship between the three colors (black being the absence of blue and splash being the double) -- of my four isbars, the cockerel & one pullet are blue, and two pullets are a very middle-grey splash, feathers mostly about the same color as the blues but with some dark feathers here and there. the isbar/marans cross that disappeared was my only light-colored splash, and the other cross is black.
oh, and one more question, this one about genetics: are ALL black chickens part of the BBS "system" of genetics, or is there an always-black gene? for instance, Jack the supposedly-birchen marans is looking all black. if i mated him with a blue isbar pullet, would i get the BBS combos of offspring, or would they just be black? (or, conversely, if my black australorp was mated with a blue isbar roo?)
