What the heck? $7 a dozen? Those Bay Area people are crazy.....

I can say that because I used to be one of them.

Ya especially in my tiny town haha they surely think I'm a nut
In Davis I can sell them easily for $3.50 per dozen. I tried sending eggs to a little church in Esparto where my DW is on the worship team. They thought $3.00 per dozen was too much since they could get the brown eggs from Costco for less.

Really? GMO Free natural and organic non soy non corn fed chickens that are completely cage free? They get greens every day and now I am rotating them out to the lawn for a bit every three days? There really is not comparison and at about 50 cents more per dozen....

I remember empty nest syndrome. My entire life revolved around my kids and they left a huge hole when they moved out. I filled that hole with my animals, so now I'm busy and happy again. But it did take time.

Thanks Kim. DS leaves on Sat. At least I know I can drive down and take him out to dinner if I feel like it.

How many kids do you have? How old?

There are several places locally that sell pastured eggs for $8 a dozen. I couldn't find pastured eggs for under $7.......which is why we now have chickens.

That's such good news
Ron Does that happen?? I swear it did here. My 2 Red Stars were both laying, the other 5 weren't, Ray shows up and Bam!! 7 eggs in the nest box within a week
From the information I have read, no, but if the Hens feel safer with him there they very well may lay better. If one of the hens is acting as the Head of the flock and not laying she may start laying again or more.

Last year when I had Corwin with the layers they seemed to lay as much as before.

She will probably get an egg from the new Orps soon though. It does not always take two weeks for them to start again.

The farmer in Winters has his flock in a Walnut orchard and they are truly pastured. He has a nice operation going.

I am hatching three groups of chicks for Kim and one group of five have started hatching a day early. One is out and the other 4 have pips. There are 5 in one other group and one group has one egg in the hatcher. One group did not have any chicks develop.

The group(W26) that is hatching early has a lot of vigor.

That's why they call this No Pay Capay. (Esparto is considered part of Capay Valley). The farmers here sell their eggs in the Bay area.

Woohoo! Which did not develop?
