well that probably was not the best thing to do

Jason, the news story I recall did not have her petting Babies. She was jogging on a jogging trail and the Mt. Lion jumped on her from a tree, killed her and dragged her off the trail and buried her in leaf mold. Petting the babies sounds like a blame the victim type of Urban Legend to me. There are some Special Interest groups that like to do things like that.

home again, and have gotten my Rcom set up for incubating -- took a photo of the isbar eggs first in their carton, so here they are:

the eggs are a bit on the small side, but a really lovely range of mossy green, minty green, and a light turquoise.

and Maggie the survivor-of-the-bobcat basque is still alive, standing and walking around verrrrrry sllllloowwwwwly -- and seems to be breathing through her mouth, in quiet not-quite-gasps-or-gulps, but not normal. not sure what might be causing that. still not sure she will make it, but alive 48 hours later is an accomplishment.

Congratulations on the eggs!

I hope Maggie gets better soon!

I remember the story that way too. No baby petting. Unless there was a similar incident somewhere else.

The one I'm thinking of was back in the 90's on the American river trail. I remember the talk of the babies. She thought they were abandoned?

But regardless of which incident it was, running will trigger the prey drive in just about any predatory animal.

Exciting day today

Around 4:00 pm I heard the chickens making a raucous and looked out to see a young Bobcat strolling away from the chicken pens. It makes it rounds everyday (I see its tracks) around the pens, but no Bobcats have been able to get in for 3 years+ so it is probably after the ground squirrels that have moved in. It would be doing me a big favor if it killed some of them. I felt so bad for it. It was SO thin! I don't think there was mored than 4 inches between the tuck in its tummy and its backbone

I love seeing the Bobcats, especially since I don't have to worry about them getting my chickens!

Second exciting thing is my Polish chicks are hatching!

When I closed the chickens in for the night I checked under the bantam buff Brahma broody hen and there was one yellow chick tucked up under her wing and a couple of the other 5 eggs had pipped and I could hear chicks peeping in the unhatched eggs

The chick is so healthy looking! So much better than incubating them in an incubator. Can't wait until tomorrow to see how many chicks have hatched!!

I remember hearing about it. I thought she was running on a trail in Auburn Lake Trails.
There is alot of cats there with the river canyon.
Probably was not a prey thing but turned that way.
she was jogging which triggered the cat to pouch. just like running a string by your kitty

We went to the Sac zoo while visiting some family. I think they had the kit/cub at the time. I remember how sad it looked in the tiny enclosure Sac zoo had. I think they have done some remodeling since then, but most animals looked so bored it was more depressing than usual.
