We went to the Sac zoo while visiting some family. I think they had the kit/cub at the time. I remember how sad it looked in the tiny enclosure Sac zoo had. I think they have done some remodeling since then, but most animals looked so bored it was more depressing than usual.
I hate seeing that!! So sad

Makes me happy to see them in the wild

We got spoiled living in San Diego and going to the zoo and wild animal park. We have many wonderful memories of special visits, licked by an Okapi, peek a boo with anteater, the snow leopard cubs playing with bones, not just pacing in a tiny cage.

Quote: Congratulations on selling the eggs. On the pub, is the brewery Rubicon or the IPA? We have 6 beers on tap in our pub (and lots more in bottles) and one brewery I think is starting to hop (no pun intended) is Knee Deep from Lincoln. Their Hoptomologist tastes very similar to Pliny the Elder (which we've been known to snag a keg of).
To those in the foothill. Anyone have any blue copper Maran eggs or pullets? Or know anyone that might? I have a broody silkie right now and lost my Maran to a predator. :0(
Thanks in advance.
I have Blue Copper Marans eggs. They're from Jeane Wade lines. PM me if you're interested.
Quote: I prefer the shavings. The straw does seem to pick up the mess and keep it in. I find the chickens don't beak any eggs if I have a nice deep box of shavings.
Quote: When the roos are juveniles they can be little idiots. I've been caught in the thigh, my husband battled with his boot and I picked him up when he came for me.....finally, he's my sweetheart again. I no longer keep an eye out for him or an ear for his rushing feet. You really have to decide if your roo will be able to settle in.
Quote: My friend, one canyon over lost all her chickens last week to a bear. From the look of the coop, when a bear wants in, they go in.
Just transfered pics from fair. DD in her comfort zone:

Then not so comfortable:

Awe, she's beautiful! She looks easy with that beautiful Paint!

The horse for showmanship is always a handful. They have been in stalls for over a week and then for the competition they set up a ring on the grass. It was worse 2 years ago, that horse would not raise it's head!

How is air quality everywhere.
It is super smoky here like fog. Real nasty.
I am going to go water the chickens and head to the bay area to pick up a hood for my project car. see I have project chickens and cars

We are finally getting better air up here, just my luck, we are headed to the Giants game tomorrow. Hope the smoke doesn't follow us back home. Wednesdays storm only started 5 new fires and so far they aren't blowing our way.

Us too. Our son and wife lived in Escondido (now in Florida) so we always visited the Wild Animal Park and Zoo when we were down there

It is not too smokey in Woodland but you can see and smell it. Luckily for us the Delta Breeze is back and moving the smoke away from us.

Have a great trip!

frustrated here, my brand-new Rcom incubator does not seem to be getting warm enough -- i've put a secondary thermometer in with the eggs and it can't seem to get above 84.7°F, despite being set at 99.5. i've tried re-setting the factory settings, making sure the lid's on tight, everything i can think of -- now have sent the company an email, but thinking perhaps i should put the eggs under one of my remaining broodies for now... argh, should have road-tested it before getting eggs i really WANT to hatch!
