the UofA Blues should be the same size as the Cream Legbars. They were created from the same breeds--Araucanas and Leghorns.

If you get hatching eggs from caj1985 the chicks will be blue and splash. She is using a Splash Rooster. You will get black chicks later if you use Blue with for the next generation of breeding.

Cream Legbars X Crele Penedesenca is a very pretty cross with auto sexing for the first generation.

oh, and comparing comb size on the 4-week-old silver campines to those on the two older pullets i have, all three of the chicks may be boys.

I can usually sex campines by their comb about day 10, definitely by day 14. They are precocious boys and usually start to try crowing by then as well.

Sounds like you got all the boys. I hatched out 32 goldens this year and only got around 6 boys in that group.

I thought i remembered you saying something along these lines -- well, at least i have the two older pullets, and now they can pick which boyfriend they prefer! (well, in a few months they can...)

Chickenmamma....
There is an entire Facebook group devoted to chicken color genes!

Holy many complications! They lost me at pumpkin!
I've sent a request join. I love color genetics!
FOA, is this your grandbaby who is sick? Hope he's better soon.

Laura, so sorry for all your troubles.

I don't have climate control in my house. It can get very hot or cold and temps vary in the day & night during storage of eggs. I wonder if that might be one of the things that caused the large number of quitters in my hatching eggs?

DH sent me photos of the planes dropping retardant on the Rim Fire, yesterday morning. He texted me last night to say he was being sent into an area with no cell coverage.
My son-in-law is a firefighter also. He got off the Salmon fire after 8 days, to join us for one day of our family vacation in Fort Bragg. Then went home to his regular shift at Chico Fire and was called out to a fire near us several times but because they're having rolling brownouts daily in Chico he was unable to go. I keep waiting to hear he's going to the Rim fire. On the Salmon fire he was out of cell range for a few days. I think that's the hardest on my daughter, when she can't hear from him. Prayers to all the firefighters to stay safe.

I have one of them, Willa, that I got from Deann. She is lovely but she hates me still. She is far and away my most fearful girl. Hoping that when she starts to lay she will mellow a bit.

my two Amelias (who came from eggs from Deann, but were raised by Ron) are also my most skittish of my adult birds -- i've always chalked it up to their disappointment in not being able to stay at Ron's place...

so, here's a question for the incubating experts -- i clearly have a defective Rcom. the company folks have been very responsive on email, but they don't seem to have any idea what might be wrong, and their few suggestions haven't worked at all. they say they will send out a replacement unit monday, which means i might get it wednesday.

the isbar eggs were collected last sunday, sent monday but arrived a day late, thursday. i let them rest for 24 hours at room temp, then put them in the incubator last night -- since then, the temp for them has varied between 85-90°.

should i:
a) leave them in the incubator at ~90° while waiting for the replacement to arrive, & hope for the best?
b) take them out and let them rest at room temp again, & hope for the best?
c) give up on them, they're going to be too old by the time the replacement arrives?

thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have!
Laura, I have a bator you can borrow. Its a Hova Bator Genesis

thanks! i have to run to work shortly, and the Rcom people keep having me try to re-calibrate this one, which is getting annoying, as it clearly isn't working right -- i just want them to send me a replacement machine. but if i can't convince them to send one out today, i might take you up on your offer -- can i let you know later this afternoon?

thank you so much!

I have a few of my original factory reds and barred rocks left. They're 3-4 years old. I lost 7 in the heat and now yesterday and this morning one of my barred rocks is puffed up and didn't come off the roost :( is this the normal age for a factory layer breed or could something else be wrong with her?
