hopeing good thoughts about meg. I have been worried about her in the fire.

I'm a little in shock here. Something ( dog? fox? weasel? ) got into my backyard while I was gone today between 10 ans 130. it ran around and killed almost everything. Louie 2 lived up to his dads legacy and was clearly in a fight with whatever it was, as well as iggy. Orlando is missing, but the girls he was most fond of, my easter eggers had been rounded up onto the porch and are alive. My ducks all have large wounds, a vet friend is coming around tonight to see if they will live or I need to put them down.

Only the breese that are completely contained AND covered were safe. Even the babies that were in the basement area that is part of the house were destroyed. So, it can and will climb 8 feet, is not afraid of humans and killed for sport at literally high noon. I cant cover either of my silkie land coops, the area is built with tree cover to keep them safe from hawks, but I could never make it so you could not climb it and jump in. They made a play for the full grown turkeys but did not get them, but were fast enough they got birds that can and do fly into the trees. Maybe a pack of fox or weasels? I don't know.

I don't know if I'm cut out for this. I just kept picking up fluffy bodies and saying i'm sorry... I'm still loosing it a bit when i type.

Sending prayers for you guys and the recovery of the flock survivors.

I've been setting the trap each night, three nights now. So far, two raccoons and one possum............ That was the best 50 cent investment in cat food I ever had.

I'll be setting it again each night until I have several nights in a row with no catch
Ellie May were having Possum stew for dinner tonight!!!

Dealing with a fox here. My dog chased it off twice this morning. Hopefully it got the hint. I've never seen such a large gray fox before.
Gray fox? Could it have been a coyote?

OMG! Chiqita I am soooo sorry. The only thing I have ever seen kill for sport is a dog. How did they get into the basement? I feel so awful. If I was closer I would come help you!!!! Is hubby home to help?

I would get a camera to see if I could find out what it is. They may come back and you can better protect if you see it in action. Please don't give up. We love you here! I totally understand what you mean though just last week when my Polish ran into the side of the pen and I wasn't sure if she was going to make it I felt awful and thought WHY do I put myself through these things......

Oh my gosh I'm sorry! Sounds like my first fox attack. I didn't think they worked together until I saw it :( very sad thing to deal with

oh shantih, i am so incredibly sorry to read your news -- so so horrible. i hope that some of the survivors can heal and make a comeback. and *lots* of hugs for you in the meantime...!!!!

i just got home & checked on Lucy, she's eaten up almost all of her yogurt, good girl -- and i did what i could to clean her backside, although some of the feathers are so matted, i'm going to have to cut them away i think -- but was struck again by how incredibly thin she is when i pick her up. poor poor girl.

is wormer medicine something the feed store is likely to carry, or do i need to get from a vet or from on-line? i'm thinking maybe i should start with something relatively gentle, since she's lost so much weight...

Fall is a good time to worm flocks, I worm mine while they are molting.  (less eggs to toss)  I use Valbazen or Ivomec, so it doesn't affect their feather quality while molting.

Here's wishing a speedy safe trip of hatching eggs to Haileigh (waititout).  Good luck with your hatch!
How long do you have to toss eggs for?

14 days.

. That's awful. My first thought was a dog. Could it have dug under a fence? That's a lot of damage in a little bit of time. I hope your survivors will heal quickly. Maybe some survivors are hiding and will come home later tonight.

My husband travels and I have ALWAYS had an alarm system in place even though we have dogs. I used to be home with 3 small children. Even though they're all teens now, I still set my alarm every time I leave and when we go to bed. Besides, I just know my Greyhound would invite everybody in through the dog door ;-)
