The more I think about this the more it doesn't make any sense...... do we have a chicken shortage here?  I don't think so...... does China continually put out products that are later found to be harmful?  I think so.... infant formula, lead based paint, sheetrock that becomes toxic shortly after it has been installed, are ones that come to mind quickly.

Apparently we don't learn or someones' pockets have been lined in order to make this deal.
Most definitely money is the deal here! Corruption is what it is and they are just selling the US away. Scary!

It's always about money....we are such sell outs. No one gives a crap about the health of our nations people or economy as long as someone can make a profit.

FDA is certainly not on our side http://ecowatch.com/2013/fda-sued-concealing-records-arsenic-in-poultry-feed/

I bet the chickens in China are still being fed Arsenic.

This is my semi muddled understanding from NPR. The chicken as to be raised here then shipped to china. We don't inspect on either end. But it can't be Chinese chicken because their food supply is severely FUBAR ( I wonder if that words gets censored) .so now they can sell us frozen chicken and not kill people on a regular basis like they do over there.

Speaking of it don't eat ANYTHING with sliced strawberries in it. It can't be done with a machine so its all Chinese strawberries. And strawberries are one of those fruits that absorb toxins.

This is one of the reasons we got into more seriously raising our own meat with french muscovies ( to replace beef) breese ( if you are going to do it, do the best) and quail ( fast) . The problems is the globalization of the food supply freak me right out.

We were just arguing this evening! Who has the safest food supply. Its GMOs and a underfunded fda vrs getting a lot of the food on the lower part of the food supply ( grains and fruit mostly some veggies but its a smaller amount) from unregulated and toxin crazy china.

My argument was GMO is better, and you can get organic in the us and t means something. The euro zone imports most of the feed for its animals and most of their extra fruit and grains from china.. including their organics. So the practices in Europe are much better and they forbid GMO products. ( and use less non fermented soy too Ron!) But they. Take china at its word and that food goes right in to their chickens and cows ( less because they do much more grain fed) and pigs etc. All processed food their has Chinese grain produce in it.

So.. what's worse?

Look what Petunia, my Avatar, did! That's a nice sized pullet egg don't you think. It's the one in the middle on the bottom flanked by an Autralorp egg on the left. Beakface has been laying smaller eggs since she started laying after being broody. That's her egg on the right. Petunia hatched exactly 20 weeks ago tonight.

I give up! I am going home to cook hot dogs and fry some GMO potatoes....At least the eggs are healthy, and the Cockerels.....

Edited to add: This is a great subject and I will be thinking a lot about it. Thank you chiqita for posting this.

well, GMO crops are generally understood to be SAFE in terms of human health, there's just big questions about their possible ecological consequences (and various moral questions as well, about taking genes from one critter & transplanting into another, which is a pretty big step beyond usual breeding/husbandry) -- so for shantih's original question of "who has the safest food supply," i think the next question necessarily should be, "Safest for whom?" the end consumer? the producers and their farm workers? the ecosystem? answers might be very different for each...

(pardon me, my professor side is showing again...)
