I didn't mean to insult your hens! I just am obsessed with tail. ( ok that sounds wrong...)

Didn't take it that way at all

I new when I bought the GCM eggs on Ebay that hatched the 6 pullets that they weren't the quality that Harris5's birds are. I have a very critical eye when it comes to my birds and want to breed the best quality I can. I encourage people to critique my birds to help me learn. I am new to the Marans and still getting an eye for them.

I obsess about combs. Nothing uglier than a bad comb! I don't like those squirrel tails either!

I think it's hilarious she barely started laying and went broody already? When I went out to take her picture she growled at me lol. I guess I have to break another broody

eggs aren't fertile of course.
I had a Basque Hen do that last year. Silly chickens.

are they sweet peas too? I know nothing about them.
Ours all think they are people, when I feed in their run they will fly up and land on my shoulder while I'm working. They tell me all the goings on, when they are loose they have to be helping with whatever I'm doing.

Her sisters got less broody in their 2nd year, so good luck!

I went out to put my chickens to bed tonight and my black laced red Wyandotte pullet who hasn't even started laying yet was in the nesting box on the only egg laid today and pecked me when I reached in to take her out of the box!!

Now, that is a first!!

Here is the little darling~

When I got my first Marans rooster he looked like the Kellogg rooster. Now that I have studied the SOP more I loove the line of the marans back to tail. its very elegant. I love to watch floppy comb and floppy sister walk around. Louie has a gorgeous tail, but his sons have not gotten the same elegance, i'm not sure what to do about the marans rooster situation...

I don't care for the description of how the shape of their body should resemble a loaf a bread! Now that doesn't sound very elegant does it?!

chickee Golden cuckoo marans are my favorite color variety of Marans. How dark are your eggs? Are they sweet? Yours sure are pretty.

Deann...sorry about your boy :-(

Since we are sharing pics I wanted to show you my choc rock girl Godiva. She is gorgeous and sweet. I hatched her on 4/26 from an egg I bought from Renee, ChooksChick. Renee isn't doing chocolate rocks right now but this girl is amazing so I hope to find someone else who has breeding stock. I wish I was a better photographer. She is beautiful.

With Miss Sweet T...hatchery speckled sussex

lol, its trying to eat quails, not QUITE cannibals.. but you have a point. It looks so innocent...
Well since I only spelled it with one n it does make it a name more than a description.

Here are my bantam Polish chicks that are a few weeks old. Looks like I have 3 boys and 2 girls (on the left) by the shape of their crests. They are so goofy

Thank you! That's sweet of you, however I found the sneaky girl today!

Look at all those pretty eggs she was hiding.

You know on the Show us Your Inventions thread someone uses one of those dog ball throwers. You know the one that hangs on to a tennis ball and it has a long handle and then you can chuck the ball really far??? They use that to reach in under the broody hens and pick up the eggs. I think I may have to try something like that.

Godiva the Sweet Chocolate Rock. Is she going to lay a special chocolate easter eggs?

You know if you ever had to process a bird with a name and breed like this one, I would say the only appropriate way to eat it would be as Chicken Mole. Are you familiar with Mole? We call it chocolate chicken at our house when we have it.....

Not that you would ever dream of eating your pet of course......... But the whole Godiva, Chocolate Chicken thing had me thinking along those lines. Yeah I know I am tired. Beyond tired really.

I was trying to think of a new nickname for my nephew who has been schlepping helping me move. His name is Jay (which is already a nick name) but as a child we called him Jay Bird. Now that he is 23, Jay Bird is a little embarrassing for him. So as I was thinking, I started thinking about (just for fun of course) something like Jay-Nizzle. Then I thought nah that is too long, and shortened it to Jizzle......... needless to say he prefers Jay Bird at this point!
